Sold most of my old Q Acoustics 1000 series speakers now, including the pair I was using for rear speakers.....

Can't fit the new KEF Q100's in at the rear so need to decide between the KEF T101 or 3001se eggs.....

Any thoughts.........

Is the Q800ds not an option, I know they are expensive, but I personally love di-pole surrounds, but I know a lot of people like direct radiating.

If not, and although I have not heard the t series (I used to own the 3001se) I would probably go down that route as they look fantastic.

How are those new Q's by the way?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your thoughts......

The Q800's are too expensive for me at the moment, as I am about to buy 6 metres of Solid oak kitchen top to build an AV rack with. Plus obviously I need to buy some rears that will work with my Q speakers.....

When I demo'd the Q500/Q200 we used the 3001se as rears, and they sounded excellent....but I don't wanna miss out on a better speaker which isn't much more (T series). The wife likes the look of the T series too......my only concern for them is how I'll be able to angle them down to the couch???

Which route were u suggesting...it wasn't clear?

My Q500's are absolutely superb!!!! So happy with them......

The Q200 centre is still in it's box till I get this av rack made....

Yeh the Q800ds are very expensive.

I would go down the t series route, I don't think there would be any loss in quality from what you have heard from the 3001se, a friend has the bigger ones T301 I think they are called and they sound superb.

In terms of angling, I don't think it's an issue, I have my RXFX up high and they sound excellent there, if you look at commercial cinemas, they use direct radiating rears and they dont angle them down to the listening position.

Any chance you can demo some in a high position?

Look forward to seeing some pics of your new set up and cabinet once made.

Big benefits of the T series, apart from the stunning sound is their slim profile so they are a little less intrusive. Having said that, the 3001 egg speakers are still very impressive speakers if you don't mind having something that comes into the room a little more.

That's sitting on the fence a bit......

As I said, the wife likes the T series because they will be subtle in the room, being so close to the wall......

And I guess they use the same type of speaker cones as the rest of my system, even if it's not the Uni-Q designed tweeter.....

The bonus of the eggs, is that they can be angled, and are Uni-Q tweeters......but Dave from our fav hifi shop in Coventry did say the T series sounded better than the eggs...and I've heard that somewhere else too.

I guess it's convenience at being able to angle the speakers, over better sound performance.....and I have no chance of a demo, althou I was offered the chance at the other demo I had...

As for pics......not sure I will be able to post any. Don't understand how to do it on here......

I think you'd be happy with the quality of either of them Pete. Based on that, I'd choose the more convenient. Even if the T's sound a little better, if you have to faff about with some wall bracket that will look a little silly in order to be able to tilt them a bit, I'd say you'd be better off wih the 3005's, which did a fine job in the demo.

But, it's your decision....

Hi David.......

Long time no hear.....

Those Q500's are sounding better and better....I just love 'em!

Sold my Q Acoustics speakers, so have some cash now. I'll have a think and make up my mind over these two speakers, then give you a call....

Need them pretty quickly, though, as I'm down to stereo only.......

Looked at both in a shop today, and the T101 looks really nice, and the 3001se eggs actually looks a bit old fashioned....in my opinion. (Maybe shape...maybe gloss finish??)

Then looked at my room and the location I have for the rear speakers, and I reckon I can mount the 'T' speakers flat to the wall, just a bit higher than head height when sitting to watch a movie.......

With KEF's excellent sound dispersion, I reckon the T101's will be fine there....
emotion-2.gif

So the KEF T101 it is.....

Will order a pair in the morning......

Saying all that........

The two T101's will be facing each other (mounted on opposite walls).......will that cause any problem's with soundwaves etc?

Yeh that is close, I still think they will be ok, should make a good rear soundstage, my RXFX are about 3.2 apart.

Just found it.......very interesting, but the solid oak worktop will be heavy and very strong, whereas he used 4x2 stuck together with plywood strips as dowelling, in effect.

The av rack I have designed is a cantilever one, like the one I showed you the other evening, Max.

I will be strengthening the cantilever wood strip with two 30x30mm steel rods behind it....(don't wanna find my tv on the floor!!!)

It has a hiden area for cables, and a centre upright section for my xbox, with four sections around the centre one. The centre speaker will sit on the top shelf under the tv....

If I understood how to put photos on here, I'd start a thread about this......

Pistol Pete1:Your RXFX's facing each other then?

Yeh, due to the room layout, they are on side Walls in dipole mode, they sound excellent

I guess the difference is that they have the tweeter facing at 45 degree angles, and the bass/midrange is the only cone facing each other.....

The T101's will have all 4 cones facing each other.......whereas the eggs, I'll be able to angle downwards slightly, to avoid this (I have my old QA 1010i's in this position too)
