KEF LS50C in horizontal position -- will it sound ok? concerns?

Hi everyone!

I’m setting up a stereo / home theater system in a room 14×17 ft, with the main listening spot about 11 ft from the screen/centre speaker. LS50s as LR, and an SVS SB1000 Pro for sub. Of course I want to add the LS50C as the center.

The issue is that the LS50C looks much better in our room if it is HORIZONTAL (vs. vertical as it is intended to be used). See picture.

The driver will be at ear height.

Is it ok to put the LS50 horizontally? I have heard conflicting advice on this.

More detailed questions:
  • Will placing it horizontally cause any noticeable degradation in dialog clarity, imaging, or tonal balance versus vertical placement?
  • Are there issues with dispersion, driver alignment, or cabinet diffraction when used horizontally?
  • For those with experience using LS50C horizontally: what did you hear differently (if anything)?
  • Does anyone have a picture of what the BOTTOM looks like on the LS50C? On the online pictures, it looks like they have feet of some sort (but so do the online pictures of the LS50 non-Cs, and there is in fact no feet on the ones that I received). I'm assume it (like the LS50 non-C) will have a label and some holes for mounting screws, both of which I will have to figure out some solution of how to cover up when I put the LS50C horizontally (suggestions welcome).
  • Any suggestions for what kind of shim to rest the speaker on when I place it horizontally on the top of my credenza for isolation, and to avoid any long-term marking/damage to the speaker "side"?

Thanks in advance for any advice or real-world experience.

Regards,

Sanjoselistener
