Hi all,

I have an STR-DN1010 connected up to the KEF2005.3 speaker package. It's all ok apart from the Sub.

It seems that it doesn't need to be too quiet before the sub's amp decides there's no signal and switches off. There doesn't seem to be anyway of turning the auto standby off on the sub.

It has stereo inputs on the sub and obviously the amp only has a mono sub out. It works on either left or right but if the sound level drops a little and the sub switches itself off and either have to briefly turn the volume right up on the amp for it to switch back on or wait until something loud comes along to switch it back on which as you can imagine is driving me crazy!

Should I be using a Y-cable to split the mono feed into L&R or is there something else (apart from running the volume very loud) that I can do to solve this?

Thanks in advance.

Check your cross over settings in you amp. I used the auto set up for my amp and the cross over was 170 I adjusted it to 120. This might solve your problem.

The other thing you can do is turn the sub volume down on the sub, and turn the sub level up on the amp. This should bring your sub out of standby quicker.

Thanks for the replies Chris and Dean, but in a very embarrasing moment, I think that all this time, I've had the receiver in "Night Mode".....

Turned off night mode and everything seems ok so far!

Going back to the connection, is it best just to leave the mono cable connected to one of the inputs rather than split it? As will it only split and reduce the signal and give the same results as just connected to one????

The sub is mono anyway, so can't see a reason to split it. I could be wrong. My sub has a single input so I avioded this particular problem.

Just looked at the online manual. Connect your amp to the left input. Also it might be a good idea to set the crossover at mximum on the sub and use the amp to set the crossover. Also have the subs volume at say 12 o'clock and use the amp to tweak the volume in relation to the other speakers. If you use auto calibration and the subs volume is to low to start with it can give a false or even no reading. I'm not familiar with your amp so I'm uncertain how much control it has over the sub line level output.

Great stuff guys!

The str-dn1010 has the usual full control over the output, so I'll have a fettle with it all. It's all set up temporary at the moment as the area the system will be installed still hasn't been completed yet (renovating an old house) so I'm just messing around with the settings for now to get a decent sound.

Once again, thanks for your help!

After fettling with it all. I still decided to turn off when things were not that loud.

So I initialised the receiver and ran the Auto Cal again and things seem to be a lot better.

It hasn't turned off since!
