I just got my roksan k2 amp & player package and now I'm looking for speakers.

music: 90% pop, 10% classics; room: 35square meters.

1. "high-end" package: I could get B&W 804s second hand - is that a mismatch ??

2. "budget" package (quarter of the price for the B&Ws: epos 22m

any other suggestions for a "mid-range" package ?

thanky for your help, and greetings from vienna,

stephan

anyone out there who can help me searching for floorstanders matching the k2 electronics ? ;-)

thx,

stephan

MA RS6s although I guess the Kandy could have the oomph to drive 804s. The last time I said something was a mismatch on here I got annihilated on here so why not go for the 804s

Can you get hold of the new Spendor A6? The A5 might suit depending on what sound you're looking for. PMC GB1i or FB1i are also very nice speakers.

thank you - just returned from a business trip, so i could not reply earlier.

yes, the spendor loudspeakers are also in my mind. as there is no retailer in vienna, could you try to "describe" the sound of them,

maybe in comparison to the b&w (I already tested the 683, 703, 704, 804),

igglebert ? and did i understand you right that the a6 is more an allround-box than the a5 ?

I can fully endorse the combination of K2 and S6e as that's what I now have. I think the Cyrus is a lttle on the fast and lean side, which the K2 balances partly, but add in the slight warmth of the S6e's and its a wonderful system. I listen to mainly rock, so be prepared to be disappointed by the majority of processed recordings as they are rubbish with artificial acoustics and reverb added all over the place. The Cyrus and the Spendors are pretty ruthless at showing up rubbish recordings. It's the bottom end that is most surprising, the K2 is rock solid and fast, on some recordings the bass booms a little and you begin to qustion the spendors control, but the next CD its clear that they have a fantasticaly extended and controlled bass, its all down to the recording.

In comparison to B&W they are less "shouty" especially when you crank them up a bit - the 684's I listened to started to lose the plot at moest pub gig levels, whereas the S6's simply get on with the job and stay super smooth. They have been critiscised as being slightly unexciting, so they need partnering with some thought - I think the inherent liveliness of Cyrus and Kandy really allows them to sing.

In sumary, think refined and very deep chested

I'd definitely reccommend that you give them a listen especially as you can get them at reduced prics now the A6 is out.

From what I've read about the A6's they have more scale and bass depth than their smaller brothers. . .

Alternatives, RS6's would make a good match for the Roksan - depends what you're looking for in a speaker. Certainly listen to the Spendors and the PMC's.

thank you steve for this review which is extremely useful as you also have the K2 amp. I'm just wondering why in most sigs I see the K2 amp accompanied by the cyrus cd. I just ordered the K2 cd player. let's see.

Located in Vienna, it's not possible to give the spendor 6se a listen. I'll try to find a retailer maybe in prague, or munich.

by the way, any idea where I can purchase them online ? (AA has the spendor A5 and A6 available, they also ship overseas)

just found the spendors 6se on ebay: sevenoaks, brighton

so this is my final list of loudspeakers for the K2 amp:

1. "budget": epos m22 (600 pounds)

2. "mid 1": spendor 6se (1200 pounds)

2. "mid 2" spendor A6 (1900 pounds)

3. "mid 3" pmc FB1 (2100 pounds)

4. "high": used 804s (2600 pounds).

what do you think ?

music is 90% pop, 10% classic. room is 35 square meters. The spendors I would have to buy "out of the box",

as theres no dealer in austria. But I favour the spendor 6Se, as stever750 has this combination (amp k2).

can the spendor 6se compete with a B&w 703 ? or is it just a better 683 ?

do the 804s and the pmc fb1 play in a completely different league ?
