You are right it was highly regarded but I would buy with care as, age wise, it may need a service. It must be around 25 years old.

No idea as to where you are. Can you have a good look at it / hear it before you buy?

I would exercise caution, as @Al ears mentioned, age will be a issue unless it has been serviced correctly. I used to be a big fan of JVC amps but good two channel versions date back 40 + years.

These (and the smaller AX-series) amps are very capable, but the range is from 1979/1980, so we're talking 45 years in age. The the AX-4 I had a few years ago was excellent and fully functional, but it's always a risk buying something of this age and they do run quite warm.

I wouldn't pay more than £100 for one, and I would want to get it serviced to at least ensure that the bias is set correctly, and the big power supply caps are in decent condition. Worth taking on if you like a big, fluid sound, but be prepared for some frustrations.
