Hi Please help.

I am fairly new to this and I have just bought myself a new Onkyo 607 amp to replace my old Cambridge audio azur 340R. I am currently running Mordaunt short premiere 5.1 speakers that I have owned for a few years and I have read that these might not be ideally suited to my new Onkyo.

I am quite keen on the B&W mt-25 5.1 speaker package or the Kef KHT3005SE. Are these a good match?

Another option and a slightly cheaper one may be the new Q Acoustics 2000 as I have heard this will work well with my new Onkyo.

I only want the speakers for movies and TV and PS3 and they cant be too large or I will be in trouble with the wife.
Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.

No idea why the MS Premieres wouldn't be suitable, but yes, any of the speaker packages you mention would work well with the Onkyo.

I read they may be a bit too bright sounding for my Onkyo which is a bright sounding amp.

Not sure if this makes any sense?

Not in my experience. I'd try them with the Onkyo, see how you get on, and line up some auditions of the alternatives...

Have you tried them, do you like the sound they give, if so don't look for fault?

Your ears will tell you more than you can read ...............have a listen before looking for a problem.

Enjoy

Thanks, I'll save my money and keep the existing speakers I already own.

I have an almost similar set-up as yours and they sound wonderful. I upgraded to the MS's from JAMO A102 HSC5's.

Are The Jamo's a worthwhile upgrade to the Mordaunt Short's? I see they are selling the Jamo's on Amazon at a very good price.

I'd really stick with what you have, and consider, listen and save for a more substantial upgrade if you feel it's worthwhile.

I think the Jamo speakers would be a sidegrade, rather than an upgrade.

Thanks for all your help. im a complete novice!

What would be a worthwhile upgrade then? Maybe something I mentioned in my earlier posts?

Yep. The MT-25 recently kicked the 3005SEs butt in a group test. If you've not got the latest mag, go and buy yourself a copy.

Will my amp be able to drive the B&W MT-25 ok?

I dont want a Liverpool situation on my hands.

ie- Good goal scorer's Gerrad and Torres (speakers) and poor supply, the rest of the team (amp)

Or how about you compare the B&W's vs. the Kef's yourself ? I'm sure there are many who disagree about the MT-25's 'kicking the Kef's butt', on both the consumer and the professional side. You may prefer a particular sound that a certain brand has to offer, rather than buying solely on a recommendation of a magazine review or forum members. 🙂

Very true. One man's meat is another man's poison.

I agree.
