can some one tell me if there is mush drifferents in the( tech and the spec) between a £150 pound blu-ray player and say a £1000 thousand pound player. And do some blu-ray discs need to spin faster than other discs for better picture and sound?

I would think there's a very significant difference between the price levels you mention although you would need top notch equipment to fully appreciate the differences.
I think all Blu Ray discs spin at the same speed....it's whats under the bonnet that dictates how quickly they load and play. It's still a work in progress.....the older Blu ray players used to be similar to a ZX Spectrum.....you could go and make a cup of tea while you waited for them to load.

And do some blu-ray discs need to spin faster than other discs for better picture and sound? a more expensive bdp may give better sound than a cheaper one, it may also be better at upscaling dvd's than a cheaper one, and theres a good chance it will have more features too,(wifi, streaming capabilities, analogue outs, faster loading, etc) although this years budget sony players seem to pack loads in..

i have been asking a lot of qustions latley i am trying to sort out my sound distortion problems i am geting with my sony-s370 and my surrond sound systeam i am not up no all the tech talk yet. i seem to be only geting this problem when i play blu-ray films thou my sound systeam if i play them thou my tv it is ok. But if i play normal dvd's thou my sound systeam it is ok as well i have taken my sony s370 to an engineer who sed he can not find anything wroug with the player. But i dont thing it is my sound systeam also because i thing if it was my sound systeam it would be like it for all my films not just blu-ray films?

yes i only get it when i spin blu-ray i thor it was the discs at first but when i play then on my dads blu-ray player thay are ok. the systeam i have mt lcd tv is new it is the sony KDL-46Z4500 my player is the sony-s370 amd my surrond sound systeam is about 10 to 12 years old but it is the if you have herd of it the harman-kardon singature series systeam that is to power amps and then the proesser my speakers are NHT's to the front mirage to the back and then a REL Q150 sub? what els would you like to no

it is the harman-kardon signature-series 2.0 amplifier and the two power amps ane the 1.3 and the1.5.sorry i am not up on this tech talk?
to my knowledge the sony s370 doesnt have multi channel analogue outs, so how do you have it connected to the harmon cardon av receiver? which if its 12 years old wont have hdmi inputs..thats assuming said harmon cardon is your av receiver? can you confirm this?
ah, thats likely to be the problem imo, the higher bitrate sound that you get from blu-rays is meant to be transported via either hdmi or analogue, i think thats why your getting stuttering, distorted sound from blu-rays but not from dvd's..
you may need a newer av receiver that is hdmi enabled, disconnect the coaxial and use a hdmi lead from the s370 to the receiver..
or, a blu-ray player like the sony bdp-s760 that has multi channel analogue outs which you can connect to the harmon cardon using audio analogue interconnects..
you may be able to overcome this with your current set-up if you enable the sony to output dolby didital via coaxial? im not sure about this though..
i think perhaps the sony is decoding true hd and dts, but then i wonder if you would get any audio
, if it was set to bitstream pcm instead then maybe blu-ray audio would work ok, this is a tricky one..

thanx for that max i will try the setins later no to day i have just had a look at the back of my receiver and it does have mulit analogue inputs if i did have to change my player what cables would i need to connect the player to my receiver and how many?

not sure what audio analogue cables are but if it works it will be cheeper than a new av would i have to connect them a serton way and would i have to ajust setting and what make cable would you get. What dose PCM meen?

Well having watched Avitar on Sony (grrr) 370 , a great machine I think ... no way the picture can be improved upon... it is crystal.
