Do you think these stores get tired of constant calls from John Lewis asking what their prices are?

[/quote]

Not as tired as JL must get making them. When I spoke to a shop assistant at JL he said that they were trying to move towards a policy of price matching against local suppliers only

John Lewis don`t phone up and say "Hi, John Lewis here just looking to steal some of your sales"

They phone up on the pretence of being Joe Public.

Its a bit tough on the independent retailer I guess but then how many of the public bother to research prices?

Those that do have the opportunity to get a better price. JL don`t make it plain sailing either, there is certain criteria to be met before they agree a PM.

Well I can confirm that John Lewis are now only matching with local suppliers. They won't match suppliers in other regions.

So the question is can you get a John Lewis store near the cheap supplier to pricematch the TV and ship the 200 miles to your house?

Cheers for that but, why did they say you couldn't get a PM?

The 1st time I was just trying my luck as I had seen a Philips 32PFL9632D listed online at £629 - out of stock, so fair enough, rejected. Second time I spent about a month tracking down a model on display, available to buy and with a price on show. I even confirmed this on the phone with Hughes Direct (£799) and then put in the call to JL. It was again rejected, as apparently it was only a display model according to JL... hmmmmmmmmmm but you can't argue (!!).

However, JL then dropped the price on the Philips 32PFL9632D to £799 inc. 5 year warranty & free delivery. I now am the proud owner of a fantastic set.

John Lewis in Solihull pricematched Sound and Vision in Bolton for me last week on a Sony 32s3000 no problem. I called and asked for a pricematch and they called me back next day and agreed. So I got it for £426 inc. 5 year warranty (JL price was £549)

I got a Panny TH-42PX80 for £709 (in store £899).... £190 saving!!! Price matched using the e-mail service on the JL website and it was matched against Sound and Vision in Bolton. Picked up from Bluewater today... well chuffed! I think everyone is using Sound and Vision, give it a week and they won't bother answering the phone anymore!!
