I use itunes as my music library. All my CD's are ripped as Apple lossless. I have invested in a new streaming device that will play hi-res downloads, but can I download Hi res files and keep them in my itunes library ? I know itunes store does not have any hi res files, but i dont want to have ro re-rip everything with other software just for any hi res files ????

Yes, iTunes will play Hires files natively so long as they're in an iTunes compatible format, eg not FLAC. If you're on a Mac you ideally need something like BitPerfect running in the background which switches the DAC's bitrate and bitdepth automatically when you play the hires files.

You could invest in a plug-in like Audirvana (appx. £50) or the less expensive Decibel, both of which would serve your HiRes requirements in iTunes.

You could also use Pure Music. It just bolts on to iTunes, but does all the playback properly.

It will handle DSD files as well. Apparently.

You even have access to iTunes remotely by using an iPhone or iPad.

Been doing some research in this area and soon going to be setting up a Mac Mini with Pure Music/iTunes and ripping to AIFF with Max as iTunes is apparently a bit sub-par at this too...
