Hi all. I am new to this forum. I would like some help in deciding on the best way to hook up my Itouch to my home stereo.

When I say best way, I mean best quality sound. I thought about the HomeDock HD, and just use the optical audio output to my Yamaha reciever, then letting it convert to analog instead of the itouch converting. Is this a good idea,? I know if money was no option, there are endless choices. I would like to keep this around the 200 dollar range.

Thanks,

Gerard

Hi and welcome, Gerard.

Personally I think I'd get an Apple TV and plug it into your AV receiver. Not only can you transmit audio from your iPod Touch using Airplay (provided you have the latest iOS version), but you can use it as the hub of your itunes library, watch videos, etc etc.

Where I listen to my music and where I watch tv are at opposite ends of the house. Does the apple tv have an optical audio out.?

Yes, and HDMI, but no audio out (surprisingly). Is the music end run into the AV receiver? If so, optical out from Apple TV to the receiver, and download the Remote app onto your iPod touch to control the music. If using the Apple TV to access your iTunes library your PC/Mac does need to be on to feed it, though as I say you can still transmit from the iPod Touch to the Apple TV using Airplay.

i believe the thinking to be that for a small difference in price over the AE you can future proof yourself.

restlesslegs0@gmail.com:Seems odd to go with apple tv just to get audio

It also seems odd that your receiver is not where your TV is.

Airport express does the same thing as apple TV, but audio only and is slightly cheaper. Only slightly though - so you might as well get an Apple TV.

Though to be fair, it doesn't have an audio out, so it needs to be an AV receiver with a DAC built in at your audio end for this to work. If it isn't, then Airport Express is the way to go.

Thanks for your input. I may look into that.

Is anyone familiar with the HomeDock HD product
