Issues with AirPlay

Hello

Having bought the Marantz CR603 I've had nothing but issues with AirPlay (as in streaming music from iTunes on my PC to the Marantz); however it works fine from my iPod function on my iPhone 4 etc... AirPlay does not show up on my iTunes screen on my PC (iTunes is fully up to date as is my iPhone and the Marantz system)

I downloaded the AirPlay upgrade as per the instructions and it went all fine; I'm able to stream internet radio and music from WMP on my PC (via the 'music serve' function on the Marantz) but I'm unable to get AirPlay to work...

Now I spoke to Jonathan Weston at Marantz AirPlay yesterday and he talked me through it all and how to hard reset the system and I did just that but still the same

However, I switched on my Pc this morning as I do every day for work; connected my iPhone and it synced as normal and then all of a sudden the AirPlay symbol appeared at the bottom right of iTunes where it's supposed to be. This is the first and last time it appeared as when I unplugged my iPhone as I needed to make a call, and then plugged it back in, the AirPlay symbol disappeared

Has anyone else had this issue; if so, any suggestions?

I've found that it's my AVG firweall thats stopping AirPlay

If I switch the firewall off on AVG and then restart iTunes AirPlay comes up and works properly; AVG firwall is then switched back on and all is fine

Iif I then need to reboot the PC or I switch it off and back on again for whatever reason; AirPlay has gone again and can only be resolved by closing the AVG firewall and doing the above all over again...

Any one any ideas?

You need to open the relevant firewall port on AVG (5353) - see here for the Apple note on this.

Hi there,

I bought a Marantz SR7005 about 4 months ago and got the airplay upgrade. It worked ok for a little while, albeit with the same delays in being discovered that others in various post have expressed. It would always lag behind my other airplay devices and sometime not be found for hours.

But now it has not shown up in my iTunes for months. It just went away. I called Marantz and they gave me the phone equivalent of shrugging their shoulders. I am on a Mac, so none of the PC based firewall problems you guys have put forth would explain it.

I am clueless. Does anyone have any idea why this is not working?

Thanks Andrew. They did not know what the problem is. They kept saying it was on the network end, but I can't find any reason why it would not work. DOes anyone have any idea why the Marantz will no longer show on Airplay? I am totally out of ideas. Thanks.

Have you tried closing iTunes or the source youre using for airplay on your PC, disabling the firewall, reopening iTunes or the airplay source and then seeing if the airplay symbol shows?

I was having to do this as AVG's firweall was blocking the iTunes airplay facility

Now I've moved across to BitDefender I'm having no issues whatsoever

How do I disable the firewall? Does that apply to Mac's or just PC's?

As far as I know you don't.

Just add an exception/exemption for port 5353 UDP (normally used by iTunes for Airport Express/Airplay.)

I didn't have to do this. iTunes (and my iPhone) just came up with the AirPlay 'button' automatically and found the Marantz. (Windows XP Pro - fully updated - with Norton Internet Security 2010 package and fully up-to-date iTunes.)

YMMV with other security packages/firewalls/OSs.

The other iTunes on my iMac had no problems 'finding' the Marantz on AirPlay. (I use an Apple Airport Extreme for our wireless network and the Marantz is connected to it with an ethernet cable.)
