Is there an alternative remote for the Ruark R4i?

Any learning remote will do. You can find very cheap ones and more expensive ones (like the Logitech Harmony, which can control about every IR device in your home).

Not that I'm aware of. I agree it's a neat idea but it is a pig to use. Also when the batteries die the system is uncontrollable until you find somewhere that sells AAAA batteries!

great sounding system but its a shame no network connectivity was added when it was updated to the R4i

Sounds and looks over usability. Adding a simple remote as well as the rotary would appease my displeasure of using it.
