Is it worth it?

I am thinking of getting the gloss red pro-ject genie turntable on offer from superfi for £132. I only have one record to play on it but would get more if i like what i hear. I wiould be using a rotel ra-04 and MA RS1 speakers with it. I usually listen to cd's and hear people saying that vinyl is or can be better. my cd player is the rotel rcd-06. would this turntable give me better results than my cd's or would it just be a different type of sound.

oh and what interconnections should i get for the turntable? thanks

It'll be different, but it won't be better. And I can't remember whether the genie has a captive phono lead, so you may not need to worry about interconnects.

so as someone with just one record that was purchased by mistake off ebay, would spending £132 be a waste of time really. may as well get rid of the record if no improvement will be offered. what sounds different with vinyl, i have not heard anything on vinyl really.

It has a warmer, less 'hifi' sound, and with a (no disrespect) budget TT such as the one you suggest, you get more surface noise (pops and crackles) than if you spend a lot of money on one. However, the major advantages of a turntable are that a) you can pick up vinyl really cheaply in charity shops and b) the whole experience of taking an album out of its sleeve and turning it over half way through is more organic and enjoyable.

Just don't, until you take it a lot more seriously (ie expensively) expect to go "wow what have I been missing all these years".

Some people here will say five hundred quid, but I tried that (well, 400) and it didn't.

I'm not helping, am I? My point is a turntable is a worthwhile thing to have, but for different reasons than absolute fidelity.

i get your drift, i will have to have listen for myself, usually the best thing to do. thanks for your help and responses though.
