Is it worth buying a HD amp?

My Panasonic DMP BD80 blueray player decodes the 6.1 HD soundtrack with it's built in decoder and sends the signals via component to my Denon AVR 2803 non HD amp. The amp then feeds the appropriate speakers and I'm happy with the quality.

Can I expect a noticeably better performance from a HD amp being fed from the blueray with HDMI?

Assuming you mean via multichannel analogue, then the answer is no.

Thanks for the prompt reply - much appreciated.

This is connected to my other HD amp question just posted. I'm trying to remove a bit of light background "fizz" I get with the IN80 (on certain films) and thought I'd enquire about the HD amp upscaling capability, hoping it might fix my problem.

If it's only on certain films, I'd suggest it's more likely to do with the way the disc has been mastered/encoded, rather than any deficiency in the system.
