Is Bi-wire still better

Some years ago when I first set up my hi fi system it was always understood that Bi-wiring your speakers was better than the conventional set up........is this still the case or now that cabling is more advanced does it not make any difference.

I'm upgrading my cabling at present and was thinking of moving away from bi-wire.

thanks

Dave

I'm going against the trend here. I have biwired my tannoys and I could tell the difference. Not a lot but enough to make it worthwhile. They also come with a grounding post and connecting that makes a difference as well.

Many people reckon it is better to buy a single length of better quality cable than bi-wire.

Using a short length of cable to link the terminals on the speaker instead of supplied brass plates is also recommended.

Me? I biwire now so that I can biamp when I have the money for a second power amp!

I used bi-wire before, but went the single wire route and bought a more expensive cable. No regrets 🙂

Just what my local dealer said a long time ago... I have had my speakers bi-wired for years on the back of the trend at the time, but if/when I upgrade my cables, I think I'd go with the above line of thinking. Haven't tested the theory tbh, but to me it somehow makes sense a better quality cable will bring greater improvements. Of course, you could then get trapped into thinking 'well, if I bi-wire with a more expensive cable it will be better than a single run of said cable', but then you'll just start going around in circles...

yes at first i couldnt tell the difference but now i can. what i did was send speaker wire from the reciever to the bottom speaker input. listen to the sound. then do the same thing but put the second pair of speaker wire to the top speaker input you should here a difference.

Never tried it and I doubt I ever will. I'm a bit of a minimalist at heart at I just can't stand the idea of an extra set of ugly wires. Even the kind that is all in one jacket is unappealling to me because it's so fat. I don't want a garden hose sized cable. My Odyssey 2 is surprisingly thin...

I have tried it (years ago with a Rega Mira amp and KEF Q35.2 speakers fed by P3 and G1042 cartridge) and it made not a jot of difference) and yes it was also ugly and unweildy so I went back to neat, unobtrusive single wiring.

These 'F connection' type arrangements solve the bi-wire terminal 'bridge' issues nicely without needing bi-wire cable or 'jumpers'.....
