Hi

Most modern ipods don't charge on firewire pins, only the
USB pins, and older mains adapters only charge through the the firewire
pins.

I have a Pioneer VSX-LX 50 which charges my 3rdgen ipod fine but not my 4th gen nano.

Bit of a sneaky low-profile change by Apple.

There
is a device, the schosche passport if you want to google or check ebay
it is supposed to take the firewire voltage and put it across the USB
pins. I have no experience of it but it is likely your best bet.

Here you go http://store.apple.com/uk/product/TV684ZM/A?cid=AOS-EMEA-SHOP-GoogleBase-UK

It specifically states that iPhone 3G, 2nd Gen iPod Touch and 4th gen Nano are the affected ones.

In fact, I have this bad boy http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/3592834/Belkin-iPod-Charger-Power-Pack-DC-AC-USB-Cable/Product.html which charges my 2nd Gen Touch which is on the USB only charging list so shoul dwork on your Nano.
