Ipod connector for car with docking station already fitted

Hello,
I'm trying to locate a cable to connect my iphone 3G to my inbuilt docking station in my VW Golf. Unfortunately my iphone is too big to fit into the docking station - my car pre-dates the iphone. I checked at my local VW garage who had no ideas on how to solve this issue (they did try unsuccessfully to ram the iphone into place...). I also contacted Apple who did not have any suggestions to get round this.
Does anyone know of a cable, effectively an extension cable, which I can plug into the docking station and then connect into my iphone?

I had problems with this as I didn't want a fixed bracket and most of them are bulky/cheap. In the end, I found the best solution was 2 velcro pads (one stuck to back of iPod, one on flat part of the dashboard). Works a treat - but make sure to pick good (i.e very sticky) pads.
