iPod classic conected to TV

I'm unable to get a picture in my TV from my iPOD. I've conected the dock directly to the TV, via the same input I use for the camcorder; I get sound but no picture. I found the video menu and selected TV on at which point I got a message saying connect output device or something similar. This is while it's sat in the dock. Any suggestions? Cheers

I use Apple's connector for my classic and itouch, although some people say that it is expensive but in the long run it does the job.
