hello all

need some advice.

can storm audio v55 integrated amp drive proac d40r?

i hear this speaker and love that sound with moon 700i integrated amp...

storm audio v55 able to compete with 700i

hoo is better too drive d40r?

thanks

Hi there and welcome to the forum.

- Yes, imo the V55 will have no problem driving the D40s. All things being equal, the 700i will be a much better amp, but saying that, you may prefer the presentation of the Storm.

- The Proacs don't need lots of power, but a quality amp with current/control.

- There is a big disparity in price between the price of the amps you mention (Storm - £3700; Moon 700i - £10k)

- The Moon 600i (£6750) would also be plenty powerful enough to drive the speakers.

- Given the money you are talking about spending, would you consider looking at other amps as well?

- Proac sounds very well on the end of Class A, so I would suggest that you check out Sugden Masterclass, Accuphase, Luxman, Audio Analogue (SA Integrated), Pathos (Inpol 2) and Pass Labs (Int-30A)

In this price range, a Devialet is worth your consideration too, with its class A character, its high current delivery and especially because they have a SAM-protocol at hand for the D40R! You'll hear the speakers like never before!

No problem.

What are your thoughts and what brands do you have access to?

It would be good to know a little about your situation eg. What system do you have at the minute; what music do you listen to; what source (s) do you intend using and what size of room is it all in?

i listener all colors of music chill out classic dance...my room its 33m

700i awesome but expensive also 600i

i think that v55 its good integration with d40r

looking for great value

I heard the V55 with Proac speakrs it is a remarkable amp, I felt like I was in a live concert hall : huge soundstage , very detailed and magical sound but there was a big flaw the low/bass was somehow weak and pale I suspect that there was a shortage of power to drive my Proac's with the V55 that's why I prefered the Rotel 1580/1852 pre/power combo ,maybe the V55 sound was more enjoyable but the Rotels had more punch and power overall .

For now it's storm audio...after listening that combination with d40 love it... but still 700i it's perfect also expensive. I believe if in the first time I was listening to v55 with d40r I will be chosen v55.
Maybe in the future save money for power amp with v55.
Enybody have experience with cables?

Opinions greatly vary.....and depends if you believe in whether cables make a difference.

You need to try and borrow some at a variety of prices and then see what you think.

Brands that I rate would be Telurium Q, Vertere, Atlas, Cardas, Audioquest and Linn.

I'll add MIT cables to Cno's suggestions if you can demo or try them.

Hi music 24

Basic 500 strand OFC speaker cables will be more than good enough. Save your money and for a worthwhile difference invest it into higher quality of amplification instead.

All the best

They won't not be suitable if he doesn't have more money than sense.

It's good to see you are trawling through 2 year old threads to spread your wisdom....it certainly shows dedication.
