Inline Volume control for hifi

Hello

i have a Pansonic tv connected to a set of Ferguson hill FH007 speakers 008 subwoofer via a single 3.5mm(a twin phono are an option)

As the volume control is a manual knob on the Ferguson Hill amp and it is situated behind the tv, is it possible to control the volume via an inline volume controller like on various headphones whether it be on the 3.5mm input cable or routed onto a wall near the sofa!

So i want to move the volume control closer to the viewing sofa. Obviously i would need to set the volume on the amp quite high and then just use the inline volume controller to adjust the volume

Or is this just a totally ridiculous idea and i should stop being lazy?
