Infa red remote adaptor, such a thing??

Hi ppl I'm installing new unit but as solid oak once doors are shut I need a little infared thingy Which I can place on outside of cabinet door and one inside, I guess a little wire between both. So all my remotes will work equipment inside. Is such a thing available? Or am I on a different planet lol

I use one that I got from Maplin, it does a good job although it is mains powered.
