I'm thinking of getting the Sony MDR EX650 in ear headphones. I know these are suitable for use with a smartphone due to them having a microphone. I have seen some comments saying that if they are used with an MP3 player (such as an Ipod) the sound quality isnt so great, due to the jack being 4 Pole rather than 3 Pole, the extra ring on the jack being for the microphone, and this somehow affects the sound quality, and an adaptor may be needed.

Does this sound acurate? Any experiences of this headphones with Ipods, etc?

cheers!

Most modern devices will accept either type of plug, but many older devices will not connect properly to the Apple-style (4-pole?) plug. It's not a matter of sound quality, just a matter of electrical connection.
