In-ceiling Surround speakers

As some of you may know, I am looking to move from my kef egg-based 5.1 system to a Monitor Audio-based one. I've got a RS-LCR and a pair of silver 8i's for the front and need to sort out the surrounds. Mrs. Scene is not keen on having bulky surrounds like the rs-fx on the walls [:(] but is more than happy with the idea of in-ceiling speakers [:)] Given that my room is 6.2x6.3m, which ones should I get? I'm assuming that if I go for MAs, then they should be C265FX or C380FX? But which? Or should I be getting a different pair of speakers altogether?

Thanks for that Pindi, they certainly are discreet! They are quite interesting. Suppose my main. Concern would be how well they would match up with the front three. Though at that price I could go for a 7.1 system with money left over...

I'm intrigued by the Q-AV rear speaker option. Does anyone have experience of these?

I was going to buy a pair of B&W M1s for rear duties (which should compliment my "big-box" B&W front three speakers well). That said, the Q-AVs are much cheaper, less obstrusive, and would (in principal) sound more diffuse. Not sure how they would integrate tonally with B&W L/R and centre channels, though?

Scene,

sorry bit of a cheeky question but are you planning on keeping your Kefs for other use or will they be looking for a new home?

cheers

It is a bit cheeky (but don't worry, I'd ask the same

) I suspect once I sort out the surround speakers, and the sub (that's another issue) they will be going on a well known auction site, to help fund all this profligate spending I've been indulging in recently

Obviously I can't discuss selling them on this forum, as this would be a major breach of house rules...

I have the Q-AV 5.1 system, and I have to say that it's brilliant. As you guys are interested in the rears, I'll just talk about them. For the size, the sound they produce is suprisingly powerful and the width of the soundstage is exceptional. When it comes to upgrading my system, I will definitely keep the rears and upgrade the rest.

Highly recommended from me.

Well, as I said, following on from my profligate spending at Best Buy, I've decided to go with Pindi's suggestion and have ordered some Q-AV rear speakers. Unfortunately, Superfi are out of stock, and not due to get any until the end of October... Luckily, I've found some at the same price (£79.95 - how the price has gone up since June!) from my friends at Audio Affair, where I got my AV Stand earlier this year.

Will hopefully get them in time to fit them this weekend
