Improving the sound of a Marantz CD5400 on a budget?

Hello,

I have a Marantz CD5400 CD player at present and I have been considering buying a budget DAC to improve the sound. I wondered if any of the (many!) DACs available under £100 would actually be an improvement on the internal DAC of the Marantz player? Would I have to spend more than that to hear any improvement?

Any advice would be very welcome!

Thanks

Best Wishes

David

In all honesty Marantz CD players make great transports but think you need to be spending about to £500 to get a good improvement TBH

I had a marantz 5003 partnered with a marantz amplifier, and bought a beresford bushmaster DAC. I thought it made for a an improved bass, cost c £170, pleased I bought it. You could look for my review on this forum, and be amused at the fuss that followed the review! Since then the marantz cd player broke. Provisionally used a sony dvd player, then a cambridge topaz as transport (which I got because the 5003 was under warranty). The bushmaster sounds the same through all of them.
