Improving Sound From Apple TV (1st Gen)

Hi all, as the title suggests, I'm loving having my iTunes accessible from the touch of my iPad and iPhone, without having to leave my MBP on... Anyways now I think its time to improve the sound further. I'm considering the following and would like owners of a similar setup to comment:

1. Apple TV --> Beresford Gatorized --> Arcam AVR 300 in Source Direct mode

2. Apple TV --> Arcam rDAC --> Arcam AVR 300 in Source Direct mode

3. Apple TV --> Rega DAC --> Arcam AVR 300 in Source Direct mode

Sorry to hijack your thread but i'd also be interested to know if you can improve the sound quality from an Apple tv (1st gen) that is played (via an optical input) through a Denon 4310 which seems to have some sort of 'restorer' software to upgrade the sound of digital files ?.

I'm afraid i don't really understand all the technical side of things so any help would be appreciated.
