Improvement in late night sound quality?

The past couple of days I have been aware of a distinct inprovement in Spotify sound and imaging quality late at night into the small hours at fairly low volumes. Daytime quality is OK but this night time thing is so good . . . especialy imaging?

I first noticed when I was setting up a play list for the Horlicks hour, same music in the day, listened to late at night was so much better.

Anyone else had a similar experiance? CJSF

This has been discussed before, i think it is people using less electricity at night time than in the day time.

The mains is a lot cleaner.

Far less ambient noise outside. (Traffic, people, aircraft etc.) Even if these daytime noises are distant and go un-noticed they still amount to a 'fug' of noise that is all the more apparent when it's absent. (I know what I mean.)

I too have always had this sensation : I think in evening-night we have more sensibility,

as there is less noise all around and so we can notice more dynamic in sound .

As a child I was convinced I could run faster at night. Maybe I could. But basically I agree with Chebby. It's quieter outside. There's also the fact that the day is over and you are feeling more relaxed and calm.

So you are up for the 100 yard dash tonight then fr0g? . . . :?

I go with the cleaner mains supply and a more relaxed frame of mind, which would include no outside disturbances. Even more relaxed when I have my Hazel and Oliver the dog as company.

I've listened extensively to my stereo at day and night times when I was in between contracts and I noticed no major differences in sound quality. It simply sounded good at all times.

I too was convinced of this phenomena ... my friends and I set about timing our sprints down in the local park running from one poll to the third... around 100 meters... we did indeed run faster. I myself ran the distance that we set ... over 2 secs faster.

My school time for 100 meters was just slightly over 13 seconds.

Maybe the air is thinner at night ?

I am guessing that this might be a preamble to the subject of you trying out 'mains cleaning' products and specialist mains cables now you have your turntable sorted.

I dont think so Chebby, I said a while back, when the TT was sorted I would stop, its sorted . . . as most of my serious listening is evening/night time, I'm happy enough.

I have to admit, I will never stop thinking, I'm an 'ex audiophile of the 80's', but the intensity has dramatically reduced. As from Monday, I will officially be a senior citizen, waving a walking stick and on a fixed income, so the pennies have to be watched. Plenty of time to 'relax' and enjoy my music.

As Frog said, we are more relaxed and therefore less edgy and analytical about the sound and actually listen instead...... :)

Very cool! :) I wonder though, and this has parallels in the audio world too "Did you run faster at night because you were convinced you could or because of a real scientific difference?" ;)

If the latter, maybe they should hold the Olympic 100m final after dark! :)
