Importance of good recording quality

When you consider it being played through another system, recorded by a camera, then played through YouTube, and can still sound great even through my iPads tiny speakers it makes you wonder about all the gear we buy! Always though the speakers were the most important part of the chain, but now I'm not so sure.

I have not the impression that this video is demonstrating anything. You are enjoing the music because you think it's great. But what you hear is probably way different than the initial record // intention of the artists and engeneer ; or what you are actually listening too in that room.

Generally, posting videos of your set on youtube is just interesting for the sharing moment. But it has no form of utility for hearing what a set can do. The reason it sounds "greater" than other vids, is probably just due to a better camera mic and a reasonnable placement of it in the room.

It doesn't sound great to me. It sounds like a system being played down a microphone on YouTube.

Im not sure what point you are trying to make here? Are you saying your iPad sounds like the system in the video? *scratch_one-s_head*

Playing videos like these on You Tube with the audio going through your own Hi Fi system just highlights even more how these clips sound like a system in a room being played down a mic on You Tube.

I'm not for one moment suggesting the iPad sounds as good as the system in the video or that you're hearing anything of the artists intentions. I'm just saying a good recording can still come through sounding reasonably ok despite all the hurdles. A poor recording would be completely unlistenable.

Or to put it another way, a good recording can make a mediocre system sound good. So perhaps systems would not have to be quiet so expensive to sound good if all recordings were up to scratch.

If you consider this as a recording of that piece of music, it's a poor recording. It would be unlistenable as a released copy for sale.

If you consider it as a recording of those speakers playing in that room, from the location of the camera it's a reasonable attempt. It's not good though.
