I currently have set up as per signature below.... I have my 42" Hitchi scren mounted on the wall which after a couple of years of watching have decided it is far too high, the bottom of the screen is about 5/5' off the ground!! I am about to purchase a new 46" screen and while I am at it I will lower the screen. The problem is I currently have my centre speaker at exactly the smae level as the top of my floorstanders, meaning the tweeters are exactly level. If I lover my screen I have to lower my centre speaker by around a foot meaning it will be that much out of line with the floorstanders. Will this affect the sound at all. at high frequncies the speakers are locatable (if that is a word) so would the centre speaker sound out of line with the rest of my system ??

Sorry, The_Lhc, sorted out the filtering problem as you were posting, I think, so it seems your reply got swept away in the tidying. So no, not at all necessary, but an accident – not worthy of so confrontational a response.

To the OP – no, I don't think lowering the centre would been too much of a problem, and if it's currently at the same height as your floorstanders and the TV is above that I can see just why you think the TV's too high. Unless you're a giraffe, that is.

You really should lower the screen so the vertical centre of it is no higher than eye-level when you are are in your usual viewing position, and you could mount the centre speaker below it, perhaps tilted very slightly upwards, and even above it, with a slight downward tilt.

Thanks Andrew! My only concern is putting a £400 centre speaker at the level of my 3 year old twins - so perhaps the advice of mounting it abouve the screen would be more apropriate.

What areyour thought of moving my sub to the centre and having my centre speaker sitting on that ? Or is this not advisable ?

Hang on !! My new TV is a Philips with Spectra 3 Ambilight!! so cannot put my centre above the screen

Ah you see, now you give me all the information...

Well, having the speaker on the sub is a definite no-no, as the vibration from the latter will affect the sound of the former, and you can't have it above as you have Ambilight and you can't put it below as you have three year old twins and you couldn't put one either side as again you have Ambilight and – hang on, just a thought, what actually is the centre speaker...?

EDIT: Actually I think your only solution given that choice of TV may be to consider doing without a centre and running the system in phantom centre mode until the little angels are old enough to realise that when Daddy says 'don't touch'...

Thanks Andrew
I think I will bite the bullet and mount the centre speaker - if the kids break it there wont be any pocket money for years :) I dont think I could justify the amount of money I paid for it to put it in a cupboard!
