i tunes to hard drive

Hello all, i have loads of music on my pc i need to transfer to hard drive as i will be getting a new laptop soon, my pc is on it's last legs but how the hell do you do it and will i be able to play through the hard drive onto the laptop through my hifi at a later date. Sorry if this has been asked before but i know nothing about this computer music, i just need some simple instructions on how to do this, thanks.

Just copy the entire itunes directory (that's the library, not the programme itself) to the external hard drive. Then go into Preferences (might be Settings on a Windows box) and point iTunes to the new location.

Sorry to be a bit vague, don't have a Windows PC, but that's the gist. Hopefully someone will be along to fill in the blanks.
