Hello guys!,

I'm setting up a new (some sort of vintage) hi-fi system and I need some help. I finished the restoration project of my Akai Reel-to-Reel and I'm really happy with the results!, I just buyed the Audio Technica AT-LP120 turntable, and now I need some help. I want to buy an used vintage stereo amp + cassette deck and I don't want to spend too much money on them.
I have two options in mind right now: Technics SU-VX500 + Technics RS-BX707, or Marantz PM 325 + Marantz SD225.
Also, I want a decent CD Player, Technics SL-PS700, is this any good?

Robert.

Whilst I haven't personally heard the Technics, I do know that Marantz used to make some great amps in the 70's, though I imagine they'll be tough to come by. Especially in good condition. Other brands to consider are Pioneer, Nakamichi and NAD. As for CD players, again you can't go wrong with an old Marantz. Just be sure to check that everything has been well looked after. Good luck!

Have you checked out German ebay? They have a lot more Japanese vintage amps than UK ebay.

A few other brands worth checking out include: Pioneer, Sony, Sansui, Kenwood / Trio, JVC / Victor, Nakamichi (who did some amps as well as their famous casette decks), Revox...
