I recently had to buy a new amp, as my 20year old amp broke.
Not having much money I bought a Yamaha AS500 at a discount. I am using some really old speakers with the amp - Hitachi HS 420's which give out a wonderful sound.
A friend just gave me a set of Wharefdale Diamond 9.1's he was getting rid of.
Question is - can I connect both sets of speakers to the amp without a problem, the Hitachi are 8 Ohms and the Wharefdale 6 Ohms (says these speakers can be used with 8 Ohms amp).
There is a selector on the amp for low/high impedance.
High impedance says if using 4 speakers, impedance must be 12 Ohms or higher.
Low impedance says if using 4 speakers, impedance must be 8 Ohms or higher.
I take it I should set the selector to low, but does it matter that the Wharedale are only 6 Ohms?
Thank you for any response, I am a total illiterate when it come to Hi-FI.
