I have no interest in 8K until it has its own media format (which it probably won't get)

The other fundament part missing from the equation is the technological advantage missing for 8K. When 4K came out the Technology also moved forwards with the introduction of Higher Bit depths, HDR and improved Colour Gamut soon after, whereas what has improved with 8K?? No more Colour coverage, sure some models are pumping up the Max Brightness but that only makes the shiny bits a little brighter. So relying on just a resolution increase that can only really be noticed if you are a foot away from a 90"+ screen, it is no wonder customers struggle to see the difference, beyond all the posh window dressing

We're getting close to an interesting point. Resolution at 8K is enough for people with 20/20 vision. Colour is getting close to as good as it can be. Brightness is almost there. Where does that leave the manufacturers for newer models? Because unless they can come up with something new, all that's left is a steady reduction in price which would drive them out of the market.
