I got a letter today. Looks like my subs are going up.

Well the increase ain't paying for payrises for any of us

I'm told paper and distribution costs have soared, and that the small increase still leaves a sizeable discount on shop price. Oh, and of course you get all this online joy thrown in free, too

I have to confess Clare I don't subscribe - I buy individual copies now and then as needed before a purchase. But I kind of like reading all the smaller reviews and stuff as well as the big group tests, so I would like to subscribe.

So I looked at the subs available through the link on this site (are those the best deals btw?). One is £39 across a year when signed for direct debit, and the other through credit card is £45.

Tbh that's getting to be a little high in my opinion (and buying from shops the cost of mags is ludicrous..). This especially at a time like the present climate - I for one although lucky enough to keep my job have taken a 10% pay cut this year and will lose my standard bonus next year which is around another £2500 gross pay lost. I would subscribe if the costs were lower. Is there no way you could do a full PDF version for people to get for say £20 - 25 a year?

Cutting out the printing, warehousing and distribution costs* you may even come out with more profit? I don't know if you've looked into the sums involved yet Clare, but is it not time to offer the digital alternative for folks who might otherwise not be subscribing or buying many issues?

* - not wanting to put anymore people on the dole of course, hopefully you'd keep the paper subscribers and add a whole lot of digital subs too!

Just a thought.

Digital issues are definitely on the agenda - in fact we'd be selling them by now, if this hadn't happened recently.... New partners being auditioned as we speak, and i'll let you all know how we get on.

Re subs offers - the best deals are generally the special ones flagged up in ads on this site and in-mag (they give you a code you then input via the subs page). We work hard to source decent gifts and run a range of deals, depending on whether a longer-term discount or shorter-term subscription/gift deal suits you.

Oh, and in case anyone hasn't seen the subs offer in the current, July issue, it's a free 1.5m Chord SuperScreen mains cable, RRP £65. Plus 15 percent discount on the shop price of the mag. The offer code is M079P, or simply click through here

Re-subsicribed. Be very interested to test the cable and see if it has any impact on the picture quality of my plasma. My first power cable upgrade. Thank you WHF. Now to see which way I go on the cable debate!!!! 🙂))))

Looks like it may work on my AVR600 too, so will see whether it improves the sound quality there as well.

Thanks for the link. Father's day soon! So have mailed it to the missus as a hint. Just in case little laddo is stuck for gift ideas.

I won a years subscription from WHF for taking part in The Big Question (many thanks by the way

Been a subscriber since 1997, so my deal is pretty hot; I've only had one price rise in all that time and that was pretty minimal to be fair, so it's still excellent VFM. I've not heard anything yet, but perhaps today's post will bring something, or perhaps it's just a staggered mailshot to subscribers. Either way, unless the price hike is ridiculously high, I'll be sticking with the mag.
