Clare Newsome:
Well the increase ain't paying for payrises for any of us
I'm told paper and distribution costs have soared, and that the small increase still leaves a sizeable discount on shop price. Oh, and of course you get all this online joy thrown in free, too
I have to confess Clare I don't subscribe - I buy individual copies now and then as needed before a purchase. But I kind of like reading all the smaller reviews and stuff as well as the big group tests, so I would like to subscribe.
So I looked at the subs available through the link on this site (are those the best deals btw?). One is £39 across a year when signed for direct debit, and the other through credit card is £45.
Tbh that's getting to be a little high in my opinion (and buying from shops the cost of mags is ludicrous..). This especially at a time like the present climate - I for one although lucky enough to keep my job have taken a 10% pay cut this year and will lose my standard bonus next year which is around another £2500 gross pay lost. I would subscribe if the costs were lower. Is there no way you could do a full PDF version for people to get for say £20 - 25 a year?
Cutting out the printing, warehousing and distribution costs* you may even come out with more profit? I don't know if you've looked into the sums involved yet Clare, but is it not time to offer the digital alternative for folks who might otherwise not be subscribing or buying many issues?
* - not wanting to put anymore people on the dole of course, hopefully you'd keep the paper subscribers and add a whole lot of digital subs too!
Just a thought.
