imo the Keyboard on the One X is way better than on the 4S but it's personal taste. One thing I like about Android keyboards is the haptic feedback option too.

Another keyboard recommendation though is "Thumb keyboard". Also excellent (and I use that on my Galaxy tab).

I'll put it this way, if it ran iOS I'd say it was better than the 4S, even if it had the iPhone keyboard I'd probably say it was better (the iPhone keyboard is brilliant, IMO),

Install a different keyboard, one of the benefits of a (relatively) open OS is you can customise it. There's loads to choose from...
Tried that Dave but after selecting it in the menu, I can't seem to select it on the keyboard , I've done so before on other Droids but can't on this, any suggestions?

Max, when you start typing in any app you'll see a KB in the notification area. You simply drag the bar down and select default keyboard.

I have been fortunate to get my hands on a Samsung GS3 for the weekend and I'm very impressed. The whole thing feels very slick and smooth.

Good to know as I pre ordered a blue S3 from carphone warehouse on Sunday, was going to do it online but they have a shop 5 mins up the road and got the same deal as advertised online. Will also be picking the phone up from the store as well so I don't miss the post as home.

Went for the one plan on 3 for £34 a month and free phone, 2000mins,5000 3to3 mins, 5000 texts and unlimited data, plus a free 16Gb memory card, car charger and screen protector. P4U have a slightly better freebie deal as you get a 32Gb card and a genuine Samsung flip cover, but they don't do 3. Most of the other networks are £36 a month and upwards for a free phone and 500mb or 1Gb data, unless you go for the £45 ish contracts where some have 2Gb limit.

As this is my first smart phone (Nokia 5310 at the mo) I was unsure how much data I needed and as 3 was one of the cheapest deals and unlimited data thought that was the best option. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

GSM arena has an in depth review of the S3 and also a S3 vs One X review (some of the same info is in the in depth s3 review). Waiting on the official WHF review...

I got offered a brand new One X this morning, still sealed in the box. The price was right (very right) so i said i'd take it, the plan being to sell it on, BUT, i bumped into a chap this morning who had one, i had a play for a few minutes and my iPhone 4S is now up for sale :), what an incredible machine, roll on this evening 8)
It's a really nice phone isn't it :) Now the problems seem to be ironed out (more or less) I may buy another one (currently One X, S3 and 4S in the running). How do you find it now compares to the iphone 4S?

It's a lovely phone and I'm very impressed by it, so far I've not had any problems at all, touch wood.

How does it compare to the 4S? Hmmmm, I think when one is as used to iOS as I am it's a major culture shock moving to a phone with a differerent OS, and in the past when I've been seduced by an Android phone it's not been long before my familiarity of use of iPhones has led me back to them, but I'm going to stick with this one for a while as I think it's worth it.

I'll put it this way, if it ran iOS I'd say it was better than the 4S, even if it had the iPhone keyboard I'd probably say it was better (the iPhone keyboard is brilliant, IMO), so it's really just a case of giving myself time to get used to the different ways it operates and I think it'll be a keeper, it's screen is simply stunning and call quality is great, google maps looks very good on it and renders very quickly, navigation is excellent, the camera quality is for me, on a par with the 4S but offers more features, it's an excellent phone.
I'm glad you like it. I was gutted when my one(s) were faulty, but wih the latest firmware releases it looks like HTC have really made a difference.
Also adding to some of the comments from others here, there is a clone of the iphone keyboard available, though I'm not sure what it's called.

Minor gripe is the positioning of the volume key meant I was often altering the notification volume when trying to lock the phone (they're opposite one another). All in all though, it's the first time in a long while that I'm considering ditching iOS.
Intersting...out of curiosity, I find that alot of samsung screens have an almost blue hint to the screen. Have you noticed anything like this on the S3?

Nah, I've tried everything, fr0g, and can't get it sorted, I downloaded the iPhone keyboard emulator and enabled it, but pressing on the text input area of the screen in an app only brings up a paste option. :shifty:

I've used it before on Note's and GS2s, can't sort it on this though.

Cheers..The screen is the best I've seen, it's very useable outdoors in bright sunshine too. One thing I've noticed though, is that it gets very hot while charging, a quick google has assured me that this is common and not really a problem, weird though.

Thanks, BB, but that's exactly what I've been doing to no avail. And, the phone has started behaving erratically now too, and it's froze several times, I'll do a factory reset and see if that helps.

Not that I noticed. It has a number of "modes" for the screen (dynamic etc) that change the colour saturation. It's had to go back now sadly

I wouldn't worry too much about the heat. My Desire gets hot too. Never been a problem. :)

My HTC Sensation sometimes gets hot even when it's in pocket & not in use, draining the battery entirely in 15-30 minutes in the process. Getting hot while charging isn't a problem, though.

Max, it's slightly different on Sense.

Read what I said earlier...

Also, here I did some screen shots.

fr0g, thanks for that, but whether I start typing or hold down the screen in the text area, it makes no difference, no options to change anything pop up. In software information

Android version 4.0.3

HTC Sense version 4.0

Software number 1.28.206.9

HTC SDK API Level 4.12

Whether that's of any relevance or not I don't know, but according to the phone, it's all up to date.

He didn't say they'd pop up, he said you had to pull down the notification bar at the top of the screen whilst in a text entry field.

Good to see the issue has been resolved.

I don't know why helplines still play numb when people ring-up with known problems.
The damage-limitation technique of just pretending it's an isolated incident isn't effective in an internet-enabled world, where a quick Googling reveals that loads of people have reported the same problem.
They need to understand that most customers wouldn't respect them any less if they just came clean and said whoopsie yes we know there a software problem and we're working on it. In fact, quite the opposite would be true.

Couldn't agree more.

I returned my One X, as to me denying the problem implied they were not going to work on it. If they had told me an update was on the way I would have stuck with it.

I may re-purchase one, though it depends on how impressed I am with the S3.

At the time they may not have known if a software update would fix it, it may have been a hardware issue, so telling you that could have been something they couldn't deliver on, which would probably have left you even more annoyed.

Yes perhaps, but there response was that it was the first time the issue had been reported to HTC....and that was on my 3rd phone with the same issue.
Just a "we are working on it" would have been nice.

I must admit though, they've done a good job of catching up with the customer care now.

still considering another. i'm just deciding on whether I can tolerate the S3's typically blue tinted screen and over saturated colours, or whether the screen controls will keep this under control.
