Okay, so its coming up to my 18th, and I was wondering if anyone has any decent methods to prevent my system exploding or something. My friends are all ***** and I guaranty they will attempt to turn my amp up to full within 20 seconds of arriving... So what is the best way of stopping too much damage? I'd guess making sure the input to the amp is 50% quieter would be the best way, but does anyone know an easy way to achieve this, or have any other tips?

many thanks

if they can't be trusted not to abuse it (and who can at 18?) seriously think about moving your system somewhere else and use something else. a good sing song, maybe?

They cannot be friends if they want to trash your system within moments of arriving at the party (ie presumably before even getting drunk).

The best way of avoiding damage is to have friends who like & respect you and don't run around like a bunch of infantile bullies destroying your stuff for a laugh.

Otherwise rent the upstairs rooms at a local pub and hire a DJ. (A big one.)

Ask them if they know a good florist. Then you know where to get the wreath for the lowlife that wrecks the stereo.

alcohol.....

Heck if your stereo survives your friends onslaught then, guaranteed, by the end of the night and a few jars you will be turning it up to show the guests what it can do.....

Lock your gear away and buy some rubbish off of Ebay... or head out to the local discotheque and do not come home until it is time to appreciate some chill-out music, guaranteed that is when your investment will come into its own.

Happy birthday.

On my 21st I moved the hi-fi into the bedroom, run some cheapo bell wire down the stairs and locked the door. The speakers were hidden from the view on top of some cabinets in the living room and, bob's your uncle. The following morning, however, we had a shock when our electric meter was broken into -- the best laid plans and all that......

As others have pointed out, if they are willing to trash your hi-fi - they ain't friends!
