Hi hi

Hi all I am really pleased with the sound I am getting from my Hi Fi. It does all I want it to do i.e provides an escape from the rat race. My problem is it looks naff! and I dont have a clue how to make it look any better. So I wondered if anyone has a similar issue that they have resolved. Or even has any ideas on what to do. My system is a, DCS verdi CDT, A chord QBD DAC, an Audia flight Pre amp (so far I can put all of this on to a rack and therefore this bit can easily be resolved) The main issue is my power amp its a Audia Flight 100 power amp. (although just imagine any other big block of metal in this post) for completeness my speakers are Dali 800 Mk2 but again these arnt the issue. I will be grateful for any ideas.

That's some nice kit you've got there.

Can you post some photos, which might make it easier to give suitable suggestions.

The other thing you could try, is googling the hifi shows, where there are literally 100s of photos of manufacturers displaying their kit (to make the most of it).

Thanks everyone some great ideas for me there, just the job. Ill work out how to post a photo and come back later.

Yes its nice kit, interestingly I have been to two gigs this week the first was a Classical Spectacular at the Royal Albert Hall.

The second was the Red Hot Chillie Peppers at the NEC. My HiFi can easily cope with a rock band and reproduce some great sounds. As for reproducing the an orchestra at the Royal ALbert Hall, well, its a million miles away.

Tino, love your set up, thats the kind of thing I have in mind. Why do you sugegest the Dac be on the top shelf?

Oops  that's not my setup ... just a random picture off the internet showing how your amplifier might be placed on some random hifi rack. I was hoping that there would be some suggestions on furniture to do justice to your kit. I think the High Res Systems furniture mentioned by amcluesent looks very impressive.

I mentioned the DAC in particular because the detail of the top panel is particularly nice and you can't see it unless it is angled towards you. In fact the Chord Aspire stand just does that ... see link ... http://www.chordelectronics.co.uk/products-info.asp?id=42. I have a much more modest Chordette Gem and all the detail of the milled aluminium and engraving plus see through glass porthole is lost unless it is displayed at an angle or face on.

Close your eyes and enjoy the music!

To me a quality speaker is a thing of beauty - whereas my wife would happily not have a single one on the house!

Nice gear! ... surely you can afford a nice custom cabinet to go with it all ;)

I would make sure the QBD is on the top shelf and angled forwards.

Does your current setup look half as bad as this picture ...

Genius!!!!

Not genius enough to rotate your room around by 90 degrees though!

Actually if you compare your setup with the picture I included above ... I'm guessing your amp doesn't fit on the bottom rung of your furniture, or the weight of the amp is excessive (52kg apparently :O )

That's right. the CDT is also too wide to fit into the stand which is why it is plonked on top.

There is a second picture which shows more of the room and I beleive its the right way round. Thanks very much for your help though it is much appreciated.

And yes the amp is not one to move around too much.
