How much headroom does my Pioneer PDP-428XD really need?

The manual for this TV has a diagram for installation guidelines, showing the unit with 50cm of space above the TV and 10cm behind, for ventilation purposes. My 428 is on a large, heavy, free-standing shelving unit. There is about 25cm between the TV and the wall, but there is a shelf above the TV (leaving a gap of only about 4cm), on which sits the centre speaker. Does anybody think that this may be a problem for ventilation? If so, what kind of issues might this cause?

Does anybody else have a similarly small gap above their plasma? Surely others mount their centre speakers above the TV (all the shelf space below my TV is taken up with the other components), considering that you're supposed to have the centre as close to the screen as possible.

I think you'll be fine mate. Those diagrams are just a guide and you've got plenty of clearance behind the set to compensate. Personally, I don't notice a lot of heat coming from my set anyway and I doubt you'll see any issue. Just stick your hand on the underside of the shelf to guage if there is a lot of heat building up. My guess is that it won't even be warm.

Thanks for putting my mind at rest! I have been keeping an eye on the amount of heat generated above the set, and it doesn't seem to get any more than slightly warm.
