How much are you likely to pay for headphones in the near future?

I used to use my headphones for mixing back in the day when i used to DJ in Ibiza, only one ear was live .
I now use them for serious listening a lot more .
I like base treble and stereo separation what would you recommend i see you have a few nice sets Jason ?

I initially ordered open box Hifiman He1000V2 from Audio Affairs, it was unfortunate they sold the last one to another customer. Audio Affairs sent me a brand new one instead, whoopee!

Headphones are more of a personal thing, love my new planars, but you may prefer different sounding headphones.
Dynamic headphones tend to max out over a certain price point but Planars can costs as much as your finest pair of speakers but exotica doesn't necessarily mean you'll like them.
Headphones are funny.
I understand why people like the Sennheisers 6xx or the 5xx and there are excellent alternatives like some of Focal range of headphones.
My other two dynamics, Byerdynamic Amiron and FiiO Ft1 are excellent headphones.
Dynamic type of headphones, can sound exciting, full of drama, seem more predictable. Planars particularly the two I have owned can by comparison, sound a little less exciting but once they've educated your ears, you'll grow to appreciate their strengths.
The bass on planars are full, no lumpiness, no distortion and treble is clear as your sparkling water. So much detail, none of this haze you get on dynamics.
But hey go with your own gut 😎

I think you mean, once you've got used to them. What you say about planar magnetics, seems rather like the clinical nature of Beyerdynamics' T5P. I found the Beyers too clinical so sent them back.

I think with headphones it's all about finding the pair that suit you, that deliver the music you like, the way you like it. Focal Elegias driven by my Pathos DAC/amp, do just that for me.

It's a fair point, the Focal Elegias are excellent headphones. The Beyerdynamic Amiron's are the exception, definitely not clinical like it's other siblings.

I wouldn't say planars are clinical, they make the music sound real, piano sounds like a real piano, especially Jazz vocals, so much texture and atmosphere. If you're classical buff, it will sound expansive and correct. Not everyone will appreciate the qualities of planar but if you seek realism, it will mirror the music exactly as it was intended, warts and all.

Headphones are very much a personal thing, my experience with them isn't one size fits all. 🙂

Thank you for your knowledge Jason much appreciated ,i Defnatley want over ears not sure about open or closed back with lots of sales fast approaching like Black Friday it will be a good time to get a Bargain .Balanced is the other option .
I will pay a visit to Rs & SSV soon and have a listen .

My 2p's worth. I've never heard planar's so can't comment. But if you're looking for soundstage Sennheiser HD800 range are very good. When I first got mine I thought they were great, then went off them and preferred HD650 for the enhanced bass. Went back to the HD800S a couple of months ago and given them a bit of volume they're great headphones. See if you can hear a pair somewhere.

Wouldn't bother with the 650's if you already have the the 600's. There's the 660's but I've never heard them. Got my 800's when SSAV were selling them at a reduced price and 0% interest 🙂

Wouldn't bother with the 650's if you already have the the 600's. There's the 660's but I've never heard them. Got my 800's when SSAV were selling them at a reduced price and 0% interest 🙂

I did wonder about that thank you the 600s being so old i thought there might be improvement in the newer 1s.
