It varies for me, but three or four CDs a month. I only buy CDs or lossless downloads.

Spotify might well mean I buy more, it is certainly increasing the amount of new music in my life.

how many new albums do you buy a month, any format, new or second hand?

Less than 1! I doubt I buy 6 albums a year to be honest, so far this year has been Elbow at Abbey Road (disappointing sound quality, how annoying), Eli "Paperboy" Reed, twice (once on vinyl, dreadful sound quality, so bought on CD, which wasn't hugely better to be honest), Glen Campbell's latest, on vinyl, haven't got round to listening to that yet, and errr, oh yeah, Tubular Bells, CD, second hand.

So 4 in 5 months, that's actually more than I thought! Trouble with music for me is I don't really know what I like, I know what I don't like, so I don't buy it, but finding stuff I do like is difficult as it doesn't tend to get played on the radio.

That's it. I'm unbelievably fussy when it comes to buying anything like that, I'm the same with books, I stick to the same authors and it takes an awful lot for me to try anything new.

I haven't bought a DVD since the middle of last year as I decided I'd wait until I had blu-ray. I'm still waiting!

Big Chris:Depends if it's a bumper month for releases or not. Average 2/3 CDs a month I would say.

Yep, I could go with just a couple a month and then 5 or 6 in one hit. I've just ordered the new Madness album and have bought Eminem's latest and waiting for Paolo Nutini's new one to come out next week. Come to think of it, Neil Diamond Jazz Singer and Guilty by Streisand arrived from Play yesterday and I'm waiting on Prince's 1999 to come. Last week I got two Blue October albums (because of Bretty's recommendation). I'm going to stop counting now...

I am about the same 2or 3 average, I did not buy any for ages then Have bought about 8 in tha last couple of months, I find it difficult finding new stuff that I like, Spotify and Last FM have changed that some what, and I think My post on this board is going to give me plenty to keep going for a while

. I am a little tight though try and wait till they come down in price I would much rather wait and buy 2 albums for £5 or £6 pounds each than one for £12 as soon as it is released.

Oooh Paolo Nutini dont have any of his stuff, ah and Blue October.

Like others have mentioned, I probably buy more CDs now due to listening to Spotify or similar.

I tend to put CDs in my Amazon basket and then keep checking back and only buy when the price has fallen - I've picked up many at £2.98 by doing this.

I rip & stream all my CD's so I also use the local library. I use the online catalogue to reserve CDs from any library in the area and which they deliver to the library nearest home.

All for 80p per CD.

Thanks to the likes of Fopp in Edinburgh, I spend about £3 on a CD, the same on those Sony/BMG double or occasionally triple disc sets (got Leonard Cohen's Future Times, Death of A Ladies Man and Recent Songs all for £3 at the Fopp in London the other week). Maybe get a few a month, usually no more than five or ten. Likewise, I'll spend about £5 a shot on a good quality used CD if it's a particular mastering I want (currently, the first run Led Zep albums, I-IV).

It varies month to month, from between 10 to 30. May sound like i'm being a flash git, but not the case, because I only buy second hand now, usually off Amazon Marketplace. Most of the discs that I buy are less than two quid a pop.

I love finding new music. As soon as I hear anything I like on radio or tv, I add the album to my 'wish list' on Amazon. I've got about three hundred in it now, which I pick through, buying the cheapest first. I won't buy them if they are over 4 quid, I wait till the price drops. It is great for bargains. I've picked up discs for a penny! There's always just over a quid to pay for postage, but, still, you get an album for less than £1.50. Can't be bad.

I have in the past bought a lot of stuff from Second Spin, the are a second hand retailer in the US, have had some bargains on there, postage is cheaper without the cases they just send the slips.

It vary's from month to month and as BC said also depends on how many new releases there are and if i want them. This month i've bought about 20 so far plus have a few on pre-order for next month.

Varies though this year I`ve been busy trying to make my way through my `wants` list and so far in 2009 I`ve added somewhere between 60-70 albums into my collection. Around 20 of these have been on vinyl and the rest cd. Although outnumbered 2 or 3 to 1 the vinyls have cost me more than the cds.

I thought this would be a fun thread. Buying second hand from ebay and amazon is a good idea, I've bought some stuff from ebay.

I also do the stick it on my amazon wish list, good for getting recommendations too.

I was flying to the USA last year quite a bit and albums are so much cheaper out there, spent $130 which was about 65 pounds at the time for about a dozen albums. Post credit crunch I get to do that less.

Spotify is proving dangerous though

I was briefly tempted by the idea of vinyl, as I didn't have a record deck when I was a teenager. Then I saw that vinyl usually costs more than CD, which put me off a bit, given that I don't have an existing collection. So I'd be paying to get a deck, then paying more for my music.

About 4 a month. Tip: wait until someone brings a CD out and the back catalogue will be on offer on Play. Then wait until the next release to buy the last one!

Agree with the comment about the Elbow at Abbey Road - poor, but I think it's the mix (done by one of the band) unfortunately.

Also bought Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Bat for Lashes, Maximo Park's new ones and completed my Crowded House collection v cheaply through 'like new' or new sales on Amazon this month. So, I'm lying - I've bought 6/7!!

Last month about a dozen, but that includes two for 10p each at a jumble sale. This month and the next and the next it will probably be zero as I am saving for kit and bought the Premium subscription for Spotify.

These days it's definitely less than 1 a month, especially as I'm at home not earning. Plus, on the contrary, I find that Spotify sort of satisfies my (basic) needs pretty well and I'm happy enough atm just listening to the streams without feeling the urge to upgrade to the ad-free version or going out and buy this and that CD I may have listened to there. Also, I now have probably 500+ CDs at home and they do take a lot of rooms. If I could store away all our CDs (and DVDs) then it'd be a good day as these 2 combine require several storage units. My last shopping frenzy was back in Jan when Woolies closed down and I picked up about 30 albums over a few days some at just over a quid. Thankfully only a very few were "dud" (think The Music's latest offering).

Absolutely, the really irritating thing is that it sounded a lot better when it was first broadcast! Which reminds me I haven't got round to watching the DVD yet to see if that's any better...

Space is at a premium for me as well as my music cupboard is pretty full (approx 2000+ CD's & vinyl) so need to be choosy about what I buy on vinyl & CD. Most of the stuff I now download from emusic.

Manchesto:Gerrard how is the new eminem album sounding to you?

I plan to give it a blast from tomorrow (I have a few days off). I'm not a massive Hip Hop fan but I like his sound and I read a few reviews that said it was pretty special. Have you listened yet?
