Just wanted to know how loud other people play there music, i think iam a bit frustrated at not being allowed to play it at good volumes, never seems a good time to really turn it up loud, i dont mean really loud, but there always seems to be a reason not to tuirn it up , the other day my daughter came downstairs and asked me to turn it down, and she is only 19, could be my taste in music but i dont think so, i like all music kings of leon, etc, i have only got a denon 37 dab and find if i go past 9 on the volume iam in trouble, any one else got the same problem.

yea i think were all in the same boat, i have got to work harder to buy a dedatched house i think
Live in a detached place just now which has a good bit of space between us and the nearest neighbours. Having spent years either in tenements or end terrace places, I'm taking full advantage! Typically 9o'clock, but at times, 11o'clock and it sounds fab!

Most of the time about 8 o'clock, but when the neighbours are out it creeps up to 9 or 10 o'clock and I have a bit of fun. Doesn't bother me too much because it sounds good at all volumes.
I never play music before 9am or after 10pm. Headphones before and after those times.

Maximum 9 oclock when anyone is at home, then for good listen 10.30 when they're out, and if they're still out and I'm in the mood, 12!

As loud as I want! Thats the beauty of being 23, Living in my own house, semi detached but with older very def neighbours. Good times!

During the week, in the evenings my 840 goes to about 15 on the volume level (8 or 9 o'clock). At weekends, during the day, 35-50 on the volume control (11 - 1 o'clock). I have a detached house so only children to worry about.

LOL.......... just in from nights and have Leftfield at-14dbs 🙂 sounds massive, detached house and next door is at school teaching! yahoo! LOVING IT!
The loudest i play is 70db and that's on dynamic peaks.Anyone that plays above 80db is doing permanent damage to the hearing.
80dB ? Woops. My music is played at 9 - 1 on the dial. Not worried about my amp giving way as it laughs how low I listen to the music - speakers would blow 1st. But never past 12 on most occasions as I instantly start to worry even though I have been assured the GS60s can take a battering. Would love to know what dB that sort of music listening is. Although on most occasions its generally played at 10oclock position as that is loud enough for me to really enjoy it & thats when there is my family in the house.
I normally listen from about 3m away from the speakers and the volume is often around the -60dB mark, sometimes lower if my g/f is in or I'm also on the phone at the same time. When I crank it up it goes up to -45dB but rarely beyond that as we got fish plus neighbours on one side. At the level though even when I stand at the other hand of the living room (about 7m away from the speakers) it's pretty loud.
I think the real question is "how close to the speakers?" as well as "how loud?".
(ps: at 36, I "already" wear a hearing aid, and if it's on I normally turn it down a bit: then at -55/50dB it's plenty loud enough)

as far as I know the VERY GENERAL rule is that once it goes past 1oclock thats when you get large amounts of distortion from the amplifier.

....and when reaching levels causing distortion a risk of damage to ears and equipment. Anyone sued a manufacturer for blowing their equipment up or going deaf?

In the manual for most/all equipment is a warning concerning high volume levels, so I assume, based on this, that it would be very hard/impossible to sue for hearing loss.ÿ
When i say the loudest i listen is 70db i mean 70db as measured with a sound meter at the listening position which is not the same as a readout on a volume control.Also saying 9 or 10 oclock on the dial means nothing as the volume would be wildly different between speakers of different sensitivity.Be careful guys loud music can and will do permanent damage to your hearing.

Every amplifier I have owned that has a dial to control the volume, has gone clockwise to go louder from a stop at about the 6/7 o'clock position. All have also started to distort after 12/1 0'clock. Thats Denon, Pioneer, Denon again, Rega and Music Fidelity.
I'm not sure how to measure the sound and have no knobs to turn on the system. If I play music around the 50 volume mark it sounds quite pleasant with a bit of a kick. However when I take the volume up to 60 or above a whole new world opens up and completely fills the room with crystal clear sound that you not only hear but feel also. Detached house, so no problem, my wife and daughter are big music fans and never ask me to turn it down. I feel lucky in that respect.

John Dolan just looking at your garrard 401 turntable. I used to Dj and my turntables were Garrard attached to a cirtonic console and two power H&H amps.
What a sound and the Gerrard turntables were forever faithful. Great to see that name again.
