Just watched the Star Wars trilogy after all this new episode 7! News.

We have all seen Gravity and quite frankly the A-Team could have built a better space stations using a roll of tin foil ,6 screws ,a sock and a banana how the hell do you begin to build the Death Star and Imperial cruisers etc

take this very very seriously. :)

You start off with tidal powered lifts (a la' Clarke) that can efficiently carry large quantities of raw materials into space relatively cheaply and without having to burn thousands of tons of chemicals just to carry a few people and a few bits. (See 'Fountains Of Paradise'.)

I read somewhere that we wouldnt have enough metal on the planet to build it in the first place? But just to entertain, i am up to building it if you are :)) we can be like the guys in the US that have decided to build the Millennium Falcon to scale in a field!

Chebby - Are you referring the book called Fountains of Paradise, if so its a fantastic read!

You realise of course that we have just admitted to being complete Nerds on the forum

Lol nah :) the true nerds are the guys who collect the toys and Lego sets ,not the odd one or favourite characters but the whole wave of figures from each film .it must run into thousands of pounds hey each to their own but I kinda get the feeling many a divorce may have been due to husbands spending their last penny on a vintage Star Wars toy.

how much money have we ALL gave George Lucas! VHS (there was 4 different trilogy VHS sets from 1987 ish to 1997)- DVD - Blu ray , the future 4k Star Wars boxsets ,steelbooks ,the ultimate 9 film box set in the future ,it just goes on and on

the man isn't worth 7.3 billion for nothing

Ah wait tho after reading some of the comments from the link

1- steel could be mined from asteroids?

2- is the Death Star I.O.S or android?

what kind of tablet and phone does vader use in the last trilogy? I'm off to check the deleted scenes!

In your defence well our defences it was a very justified double ,triple or even quadruple dip .every new format was worth the upgrade VHS to DVD was a no brainer and the upgrade from DVD to Blu ray was excellent the 6 film Blu ray boxset is awesome and the PQ on all the films compared to DVD was night and day.

as for the VHS versions

1 - the original CBS FOX releases in the late 80's

2 - the early 90's versions with silver trim and original artwork

3- the mid 90's red foil Star Wars logo remastered versions

4 - and lastly the ones that will be kicking about most peoples houses the yellow special editions in plastic cases or the half vader helmet edition in cardboard or silver for the widescreen editions

dont know how many laser disc versions there were.?

I would use a basketball and paper mache to build a completed death star and when its blown the special effects will be cheap!! Am I the only one to think that Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back & The Return of the Jedi are the best. They were also stunning in the Birmingham Odeon.

Am I the only person that thinks oxygen is just brilliant?

Just in case that isn't clear, not you're not the only one to think that, you'd probably be the only one if you DIDN'T think that in fact.

I really hope this new trilogy gives Star Wars the boost it needs .i didn't hate the last trilogy I thought the story was good enough and the special effects were excellent .

maybe Lucas as director was its biggest failure and I think getting Lawrence Kasdan back on board as screenwriter for episode 7 was an excellent move by jj Abrams as for the return of ford ,fisher and Hamil I think they will have a very limited role in the new films perhaps even cameos.

the hype is going to be ridiculous.

I'd expect all three to play a pretty big part in the first film at least, while they get the new characters established.

I also wouldn't be surprised if one of them (possibly Luke) got killed at the end of the first film (obi-wan in episode 4, and qui-gon in episode 1?).

Ah yes I like your thinking there mr malarky .luke getting killed or sacrificing himself for someone sounds good to me.ewok sex scene may be a bit risky tho.
