I have had a 37" Hitachi PD4200 plasma (not even HD ready) for over 5 years. Although replaced by a 50" Samaung in the lounge, it now proudly hangs on the wall in the conservatory where it is used for sky multi room and XBOX 360 / Wii. Still fantastic picture and sounds miles better than the Samsung.

I've had my panny 42pz85b since sept08 its got a 5 year warranty with john lewis so i won't be changing anytime soon i just don't see the point i'm just really happy with the performance, the inbuilt freeview tuner picture is excellent, sky hd is stunning and blu ray from a BD35 simply awesome.

I can guarantee you that if you watch SD through sky plus or v plus etc, the picture will better the crt. However for typical freeview, I take your point, it's not too different.

Bought in Summer 2007 and not about to change it until dies. It's not 1080p and I'd like that, but the only one I'd want is the Kuro and I can't even begin to afford it. Will go down to the folks and their JVC DLA-HD100 projector for a more amazing view. Why throw out a machine that's working well and cost £900 odd. Best value 50inch I can think of, back then.

Wondering whether their is an input shortcut for programmable remotes so that I could buy a Logitech remote and click "Watch a DVD" and have it switch the screen to HDMI1 without me having to cycle through the inputs. It's a bit annoying at the moment!

The Harmony range can do exactly that Will. Some TV's with this type of input selection can be fiddly but it can usually be worked around. I would imagine that your TV will be in the database. I would search other forums and the official Logitech Harmony one too but I would be very surprised if your TV isn't do-able. Most have discrete input commands too, my Panny does. I'm on my second Harmony remote now and they really are brilliant bits of kit.

I've got a Panasonic 32LXD60 that's 3 years old. Still runs great and the picture on it in HD is still brilliant to look at. Moving to a new house though and the new living room is much larger so when the dust settles might be looking into a 40-46 incher that's 1080p and move the 32" into the bedroom. On the other hand, if I can get away with a projector....

I got mine close to the end of 2005 and still really like it i managed to get them down to £1550 which obviously for a 32" would be incredibly expensive now but was priced up at £2000. May change this year only because of the size of it as im moving will probably go for the philips pes001 or if there still some about go bigger for the Pioneer KRP500.

But which Logitech Harmony remote would you buy?

The 1100? The One? Or one of the others. How can they make so many? Why bother? Can they really need so many subtle variations on the theme? I need your help guys! Thanks for the advice too!

I've had my 42" Pana PX80 for just 4 months (Boxing Day) so I'm hardly considering upgrading yet. Not when my OH is, from time to time, giving me grief for having that huuuge telly in our (large) living room. Lol. IF it was our house, I would have gone for a 50" or 60" screen (wall-mounted) and I think I'd been happy for life (at least the tv's lifetime).

I only upgraded because our previous set (Samsung LCD) was such a small screen (26") and had underwhelming sound quality. Had to whack it right up to be able to hear something.

So now, very happy. And superb for hi-def movie watching!

Same tv, same day of purchase. Wasn't £499 from Comet by any chance? Upgraded from a Panasonic TX-32LXD70, purely because of screen size. Will be keeping my PX80 for a good while now.

Just ordered (well 1 month ago) a pioneer krp-500A.

At moment I have a non-HD panasonic 42" plasma (with seperate tuner), which I have had for about 6 or 7 years now. I paid over £3k for it when I got it. I seem to remember about 6 months after I got it this new concept called High Definition hit the streets!

TBH the TV produces a great picture and the only reason I am getting another one is I am the only person I know who still has a non-HD tellybox, and I really want a good HD system.

I am sure I will keep the Pioneer at least another 6 or 7 years, and quite probably more.

LOL

It so nearly was. In the end I bought it from Richer Sounds (Romford).

Will - I think you make a good point, so if you don't need absolutely every feature, I'd go for the cheaper option. ÿI'm delighted with my Harmony One, which makes the system easy to use for the whole family (from 8 years up).

Thanks Sorreltiger. Any reason why you went for the One and not one of the other wand shaped remotes?

With TV's there are always so many complications, like allocating inputs. Made harder if you switch off "HDMI Control", which I think you pretty much HAVE to do, as otherwise devices with HDMI rather act like the great dictator. So a smart remote, would make operating everything vastly easier.

I've had my Sony Bravia KDL-32S2510 for 2 years now and, apart from some occasional backlight bleed in the top corners, I've been very happy with it. It helps, of course, that I was able to purchase it at staff price.

I'll probably keep it at least another year.

I used to use a Pronto which was a two handed remote, much like the 1000 and 1100 remotes. I don't like them. The Pronto became a hobby to program. I then bought the Logitech 525 and I still use it in the bedroom but the buttons are 'clicky' and it eats batteries. I have a One in my main setup and it works a charm. The touchscreen is a joy to use, the button layout is spot on and it feels like a better quality product than the 525/555 etc. I've heard that the buttons on the 7 series are also a bit 'clicky'. My mate has an 885 and I don't like it at all.

The One is best of the bunch for me but try them out if you can and now and again discount codes turn up for amazon. There was one recently where the One was down to £69 or so.

I can't recommend the One enough!!!!

I think it's around 4 years. Cost me £2k so that'll give you an idea. The RDR-HXD910 DVD/HDD recorder I bought at the same time was £700!!!!

Pioneer PDP 433HDE since 2003 , 6 years still going strong as good as it was when i bought it. Next model was HDMI i've looked every year and it's only this year i have finally decided it's time for a new model (can't fend of the HD hype any longer) and it would have been a complete no brainer with a Kuro KRP however pioneer dropped the were not making THE BEST TV IN THE WORLD bombshell and it's changed my mind as much as i love them i'm not buying something thats not going to be made anymore. So who will replace the king well there is only one contender on my list to take over the display duties and that is the Phillips cinema 21:9 if it's not as good as it looks then i'll have to bite the bullitt and buy a kuro. Any decent TV will last at least 6-7 years no problem IMO if you feel you need to replace it in a couple of years you bought the wrong one in the first place. ÿ

Got my first Plaz back in 2002 (Fujitsu 42" which is now in the Kitchen/dining room) then upgraded that in 2004 to a series 5 Panasonic 42" (now in the bedroom) upgraded to a Samsung PS50O97HDX mid 2007 but that developed a fault after about 6 months, so got a exchange and upgraded it to my current Samsung PS50P96FDX Full HD jobbie.

Any plans to upgrade? well none iminent but if either the old Fujitsu or Panasonic die then I will then put the Samsung 50"" into the kitchen/diner and get myself a Projector

I've had my Samsung LE40F71 for 2 Years now! So much has progressed since then. I'm keeping this set until it rots.

I have plans to upgrade to a new Samsung 7020 or wait for the 8000 Series to launch.
