It's a no good from me. I like YouTube clips and can see a difference but when it comes to 4K HDR Blu Ray I can't really! How about you?

At the Bristol show this year where they compared HDR and Non-HDR. I thought, yes it is a bit better but not enough to make me want to upgrade

Sometimes I watch my 1080p tv and think wow, the detail on this tv is amazing. It was THE top of the range led tv in the Samsung range back in 2012.

Then I watch a movie on my projector and the colours pop and there is a good level of black detail (dark room) and I think, wow, for how much I paid, this cannot be bettered.

So tell me, why should I upgrade to a 4k tv? I don't think it is worth it. However, a 4k projector? When they are no longer silly money, yes please.

So many haters of UHD blu ray..

Its amazing! It's better than watching the film at the cinema so that's a win for me.
It's not the format but the lack of decent, not digitally upscaled, titles that is holding me back.

I have no side by side experience and I am not convinced by the demo videos running in Currys as that is not what you watch at home and not from that distance.

So it seems to me that if you have a top notch 1080p TV like I do, and it still makes me say wow, or a projector that does the same, an outlay of a thousand pounds or more for a comparible size screen for very little material to watch, and little added benefit,is not easy to justify.

How long until 8K comes in as well? Is it worth going 4K at all if you are happy with 1080p?
I don't think 8k is far away, but nope it isn't worth it, but the TVs themselves in 2D and 3D are quite remarkable.

I predict 8k uptake will be slow if non-existent, especially in the UK, and most likely in the USA as well.

Certain countries (like Japan, Singapore, etc.) may "leapfrog" 4K entirely, but the uptake on 4K here and in the UK will mean that people will be unwilling or unable to shell out for yet another new TV, BDP, and probably a receiver to boot to make use of it. Most people won't see the point, much like all you "1080p is good enough" people (and let's face it, on a sub 60 inch TV it probably is). Moreover, I doubt the internerd can cope with the required bandwidth for mass market 8K streaming services.

I suspect it might get some uptake in cinemas, etc. where they will now (if they don't already) download the movies off line and play them back from a hard disk and play them back on an expensive "industrial" projector onto existing screens, but for home use? Probably not.

4k material is stunning.

So is 1080 on a 4k screen.

HDR is incredibly life-like.

Broadband speed is still an issue when watching online material.

Hopefully, things will improve soon.

(Sky is getting very expensive) too expensive!

Netflix and Amazon are the future for HD 4k and HDR content.

The jump between DVD and BD is huge but tiny between BD and UHD. Watching Marco Polo in HDR was nothing special. So unenthused personally.

Whats interesting about watching that video - considering its just a taste of the actual real things - my eyes are more drawn to the higher constrast of the UHD playback - they get drawn more to that screen and want to watch that version more.

Says enough really

I have to say watching that link actually showed me it's down to how the film is finished rather than HDR 4K was Blu Ray. I thought Mad Max was much better on the Full HD and thought what was all the hype about, then I saw Batman Vs Superman and that looked much better in 4K HDR!

Not a format war as such, it's down to how the product is finished more than anything

Yep, that's what I was thinking. Definitely a good clip to watch. Is that what people are seeing in shops too? Cheers.
