Welcome to the What Hi-Fi? Forums, your essential destination for discussion, advice and information about all things home entertainment.

We aim to offer friendly, lively Forums where members can share opinions as well as knowledge and experiences. To keep things fun and fair for everyone, we ask you all to read - and expect you to abide by - the following rules.

Any additions to the site - including comments on news stories and blogs, as well as Forum posts - that breach these rules are subject to editing and/or deletion by the site's administrators. Members who break the rules will also receive a warning and/or be banned from the site.

1. Members must not post libellous, racist, aggressive or otherwise insulting or abusive remarks about any individual, company or organisation.

2. Members must not use swear words, or offensive phrases or terminology in their posts, user names or signatures.

3. Members must not post any pornographic or otherwise offensive images or text that could be distressing to any other member. This includes the picture chosen as your Avatar.

4. Posts must not include links to inappropriate material - which includes pornographic or offensive images or information.

5. Members must not submit information disclosed to them in confidence or post any material which compromises the security or privacy of anyone other than themselves.

6. Members must not promote illegal activities in any way, including linking to illegal material (this includes music, movie and TV downloads) in their posts.

7. Members must not post images or information owned by other third parties.

8. Members must not post or link to spam of any nature.

9. Pictures are not allowed in signatures, and please try to keep signatures as brief as possible. Lengthy lists of equipment and pictures can be posted in the 'Your system' section of the forums, with a link in the user's signature to the relevant post.

10. Manufacturers, retailers, service providers and their staff are required to identify themselves as such in their signature. ‘Trade’ members of the forum failing to meet these conditions will be removed, as will those the moderators suspect to be trade members posting under an alias.

11. The site must not be used to solicit business of any kind – this includes any information in signatures and biographies, and specifically prohibits trade users from linking within forum posts or their signature to their websites, special offers, etc..

Neither shall trade members use the forums to encourage members to contact them for special offers or advantageous pricing. What Hi-Fi? offers a range of advertising opportunities that can be used to promote relevant products and services - click on Contact Us for more information.

12. Trade members, dealers, manufacturers and their PRs must not use the forums to blatantly 'promote' products they sell or distribute.

13. Members should not register more than once, nor submit the same or similar posts to more than one area of the site. Duplicate registrations, threads or posts will be deleted. Members are also encouraged to search for the topic they intend to post before starting a new thread, as existing discussions may already exist for them to join.

14. If you feel a post or profile has been unfairly altered or removed, please use the Contact Us page to register your views.

15. We will not tolerate abusive criticism of What Hi-Fi?, its publisher and staff. We will also remove any links to other sites abusing What Hi-Fi?, its publisher and staff.

These rules are regularly reviewed, and may be updated at any time - please use the Contact Us page to notify us of any perceived breach of any of the above, or to suggest any additions or amendments.

What Hi-Fi is encouraged to provide a functioning search box that allows users to search the forums and not just WHF's news posts.

Still awaiting a reply to the email I sent about a week ago regarding spam, moderation and the lack of a working 'report' function.

I agree the search function does not work. Best to go into google and use theirs.

" The site must not be used to solicit business of any kind – this includes any information in signatures and biographies, and specifically prohibits trade users from linking within forum posts or their signature to their websites, special offers, etc.."

Just by being on here and giving advise is drumming up business thats why some are here. By having the business name in their signature is free advertising.

They need to comply with house rule no. 10.

Missed my point.

No I haven't. The reason is simple, if the dealers want to advertise, they need to pay What Hi Fi which can then appear as a sponsored page. Merely having a name isn't true soliciting business. Yes, they will get more business by being here, and developing a rapport with users. But that does not constitute soliciting business, as they're not actively asking other members to contact them.

It is important for them to declare business interests on the other hand, which will help other members decide if the advice given has any bias or not.

Can you be more precise on that ? What is "abusive criticism of What Hi-Fi?" meant to be exactly ?

The kind of posts that existed until about 3-4 years ago (and sometimes even now). Criticism is fine, but shouldn't go down to the level of personal abuse. That's my understanding.

It's a Hifi site people talk about Hifi what ever it is . There is nothing in the rules to say I can not take about abrahamsen get over it ! actually u r right......... Hi,

It would seem that Colin??? who sells the Abrahamsen and other amplifier products cannot post on this forum. NVA have their own forum area on http://www.hifisubjectivist.org, and I think that NVA owns the entire forum site.

There seems to be a gap in the market, where there is a forum available for all manufacturers. Linn, Naim, AVI, etc., all have their own forums, but startups such as IQSPEAKERS will be at a disadvantage.

I think the market needs a single forum which can be used by startups to promote their business - especially for hifi which has a following, as opposed to a washing machine, or TV, manufacturers.

Regards,

Shadders.

most who know me on here no that I started of with a marantz pm6005 but after joining this site I started to read posts on different subjects and reviews and learned stuff about Hifi . I brought a abrahamsen of Colin by contacting him by telephone not on this site all I am is just a customer who brought a abrahamsen amp . Colin knows the rules of this site and far as I can see never broke them . I started a thread on abrahamsen because I wanted to return the favour to someone else who did not know much about abrahamsen I thought at the time it was a good thing to do and then people could add there thoughts about the product and put reviews if they wished . But what I did not realise was there had been lots of posts in the past about abrahamsen I had read some but not all of them so this is why I think there should be a proper search bar for the site and then people can look up old posts if they wished too . My problem with the other party is that he was being very personal and basically saying stuff that was not true by saying I was Colin's pimp and basically putting colin down for something he has not done which in my book is uncalled for and a apology would of done to me and Colin . Most of us rise above people like this but it should not be like this on this site what does this do to new members who join this site if people talk to people like this .
