Home made speaker stands

Are very expensive speaker stand that importand? I do get the idea tha vibration is not good, but why can I not just use a very heavy piece of wood or metal to put my speakers on, or the ones I made from old wine crates that i filed with bricks and added spike to the bottom. I think it should be about what the ear hear and not about the the price, because here in South Africa prices on good stands is just ridiculous!!!

Should be very rigid and dense though, and might not look too pretty. Also not so sure about wooden?

You should be able to get some decent ones for about £60 on ebay, if you ask the seller nicely he may ship to S.A. for extra charge ÿ
