Hi there

Please can you offer me some advice on the following:

I have picked out the panasonic bd80 as a blu ray player, but I am confused which av receiver to put with it. Its either going to be the Sony STR-DA2400es, the Onkyo TX-SR607 or the Yamaha DSP-AX863SE. Any ideas which is best and for what reasons?

For the speakers it will be either the KEF KHT2005.3 or the Q Acoustics 1010I. Which is best?

I will be using these products with my Panasonic viera TX37LZD800. I will also be connecting to Sky HD and XBOX 360.

The whole setup will be used for films and gaming, but notf listening to music.

Thanks

Steve

All three amps are good and the Yamaha won an award for the £500-£1000 category so if you can find one go for it although it's been replaced. Yamaha make one of the finest amps around it may be the most expensive but it's worth it. For speakers the Q Acoustic will sound better than the Kefs but obivously bigger speakers and a rather large centre, and easy to upgrade fronts to floorstanders, also consider the MA Vectors which are small and compact easy to wall mount and getting rave reviews.

Hi,

The Yamaha amp may be hard to come by. While it got terrific reviews, demand has outstripped supply. New Yamaha models are imminent.

Speakers:

If you want 'style' speakers the KEF rate highly - you may also want to check out the new B&W MT-25 package (reviewed in this months magazine) and available a little over the asking price of the KEF. The 1010i is also a small speaker but available in wood finish rather than black/silver/white of the KEF or B&W.

You are best to audition for yourself as your own taste will ultimately dictate which you prefer.

You haven't narrowed it down to any 'bad' choices but the final decision is one you should make after hearing them for yourself. Make an appointment and take some movie material you are familiar with (both DVD and bluray).

Enjoy.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

Everyone has made very good points here, however, you also need to consider your room size, listening volumes etc..

I went with a Yam 1900 - excellent amp if you can afford one? The qacoustics 1010i in cherry which look beautiful and sound awesome at any sound level.

I would say i have a relatively large living room area by volukme although it is a strange shape! my set up sounds brilliant and i love it.

As Conchtr say's - you have to go and listen to some systems at your local stores, vital!!!
