I have just ordered 2 x Tacima CS929 to add to my home cinema setup and was wondering if anyone has any advice on how I should configure these. Current equiptment :

Sony KDL-40W4000

Sony STR-DA5300ES

Sony PS3

Sky HD

I was planning on putting everything but the amp (5300ES) on one and the amp on the other, but I would like some advice / recommendations if thats the correct way to go.

Cheers

Personally, I would plug your PS3 into the first socket (nearest the tacima lead), then your Sky HD, and finally your TV. I would not plug your Receiver into a Tacima I would plug straight into the wall via one of these http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=31304

Why not use the tacima for the reciever any information on why this is not recommended ? I thought they were supposed to improve picture and sound in some setups.

Could I also ask what people think of using these -

http://www.mediaatlantic.com/product.php?xProd=205140

One of them plugged into the socket and the Tacima plugged into it. That should allow remote controlled standby saving, with the conditioning of the Tacima. PS3, TV and amp plugged into Tacima. Are there any problems with doing that? Would I get the best of both worlds? The Sky would have to go directly into wall socket as I don't want to put it completely off for recording.

Probably Its due to the power draw demands of the amp , which you would'nt want restricted by the Tacama

Same is true for a Sub , I would'nt put my sub on a Tacama , the Tacama is more suited to a Bluray or cdp , Sky box front end

But it will be ok for the tv though right ?

Does the tacima restrict the power that much from the socket, even if the amp is on its own tacima extension ? Even if it was just the amp that was plugged in ? I guess I'll just have to have a play and see what it sounds like with and without.

TV will be fine

Try the amp cant do any harm ,after all it is just an opinion users have , feed back your findings they are always of interest

As well as using the tacima, would it be worth while upgrading the mains cables for the amp, ps3 ? Not sure if I can upgrade the tv or sky box as the tv has builting cable/plug and the sky box uses a figure 8 connector. Also any recomendations for main cables would be appreciated.

EvertonMonkey:Does the sky hd cable make much of a difference ?

try yourself and see.

I have a DCT treated RA powerkord on my V+ via n iec to fig 8 adaptor, no noise on picture SD at times looks like HD, like screen has been cleaned!!

Sources tend to benefit most from mains upgrades

Just one last question
emotion-5.gif

Looking at the reviews on what hifi, which of these would be best for my system ?

Clearer
Audio Copper-Line Alpha - Approx £35

Chord Company SuperScreen - Approx £65

If I can help it dont really wanna spend much more than the £65 if I can help it, although if something at the £100 price bracked is gonna be considerably better then I might be tempted (over a number of months) to invest in them.

Cant comment on the comparison between them sorry, never used a copper line alpha, think pistol pete is the man for that question.

Personally i would bide your time and scoure e bay occasionally a chord powerchord comes along and can usually be had for around £60-£70.

The Copper-Line Alpha is an excellent mains cable - thoroughly recommended by me. The great thing about buying from Clearer Audio is their 60 day money back guarantee (which I've used for the Silver-Line cable I ordered) and it is excellent so you can try before you buy.

Haven't seen the Chord lead in action I'm afraid but WHF's review can be found here.

My bad - this thread might help.

Looking through my back issues, can confirm in the Buyer's Guide the Chord Power Chord did indeed get 4 stars at £140 in a July 2006 review (unfortunately my back issues don't go back that far for the full review though!).

4 stars thats intresting, does that suggest that the superscreen is a better cable or just different better at its price range ?

It'll be performance per pound, so it got 4 stars at £140 i.e. compared to other cables you can get at that price whereas the SuperScreen got 5 stars at £65. So they're in different categories really.

Personally, I would say the Power Chord is meant for higher end kit at that price - I'd go with the Clearer Audio Copper-line Alpha. I auditioned the Silver-line power cable with my kit and found it just didn't improve the sound that much over the Copper-line Alpha considering the increase in price between the two, but I'm sure with a higher end AV setup it would have been worth it.

So looking at my setup in my sig you would recommend the Clearer audio coper line, but I suppose the chord superscreen would also be an decent option. Thank again.
