Hi 'thehoss',

Try Sony BDP-S350 blu ray player (see for £208), and:

Onkyo TX-SR506 amp (£250), or Sony STR-DG820 (£300)

Tannoy SFX 5.1 from Peter Tyson (£199.90 including cable and delivery)

Leaves you will a bit for QED HDMI-P cables if you opt for onkyo amp............

What do you think?

Sony amp has: Dolby: TrueHD, Digital EX, Pro-Logic/II/IIx
DTS: Master Audio, ES Discrete, Matrix 6.1/7.1, Neo:6, 96/24

and onkyo 506 has: Dolby: Digital/EX, Pro-Logic IIx Movie/Music/Game
DTS: /ES Matrix/Discrete, Neo:6 Music/Cinema, 96/24

according to superfi.co.uk

Sony amp gets the 'nod' then..................and its only £270 on their site

Hope that helps you

Sorry to make life decisions harder for you. The Tannoy SFX 5.1 set up is the replacement for the FX and EFX earlier versions. Both have reviews on websites (4 star), but I never found a review of the SFX version when I was researching them (newest, and improved version).

They are the newest version, but retailed for more, so i assume will be discontinued.

Reason I know about these speakers: I nearly bought some myself, but ended up paying more and buying the Q acoustics 1010i 5.1 system.

If you want bigger speakers, have a look at these:

http://www.petertyson.co.uk/ebuttonz/ebz_product_pages/mordaunt_short_carnival_5.1.shtml

Again, looked into them at the time(£250), but no reviews....but hey, they are mordaunt short carnival speakers though!!!

If your unsure about the tannoy speakers, Richer Sounds have both Sony amp (actually for £250 too!!) and tannoy system for sale.

If I were you, I would book an appointment with them and go listen to the both. If you like them, buy the amp (£250 is best price I've seen), and buy speakers from Peter Tyson for £199.90.

Then assess the funding for the blu ray and see what you can get for your money...

I love spending other people's money for them lol

i really want that sony amp!!!

but if theres problems with it regarding sky hd im not sure if i can wait long enought till it gets fixed!

if i could have that amp and the small dav is10 speakers i would be jamming! but both speaker packages that you mentioned look the part i just think that in a room the size of mine they would be very noticeable!

if i could get a reliable review for the sony ht is100 spreaker package it would make things easier, im just extrapolating their rating from the sony dav is10 rating as its the exact same minus the dvd player and has more hdmi ports!

decisions decisions!

if people could throw in more suggestions that would be great! this research will at least help me understand the set up/systems more!

How big is your room?

I have seen the tannoys in a shop, and they are really quite small. One of the smallest speaker systems I have come across

Don't forget, if you have limited space, the tannoys can be wall mounted.

And I think I am correct in thinking they come with wall brackets for the rear speakers, as part of the kit.
