Just returend home from a trip to buy some records, my musty record shop was late opening so i popped in HMV to see what they have, last time i visited they had something like 3 records, to my surprise they had a whole section of vinyl, my eyes popped out of my head. I ended up leaving with The eagels-Hotel calafornia, Joni mitchell-Blue, Air-Moon safari and The best of Bob marley. Lot's to choose from, i'll be going back on payday, really great to see, well done HMV.

That is indeed good to see.

It's a pity there aren't a few more HMV's around like there used to be, as such I think I'll still be relying on more small record stores. I trust your journey was not too far.

We have a few independent Record stroes around Bournemouth/Poole which i normally buy vinyl from, it really was a nice surprise to see a small HMV stocking new vinyl, personally i prefer the small Record stores as i have come to know some of the owners and it's always fun to haggle, the girl on the counter at HMV wasn't in a haggling mood.

Ah, that's the big players for you. Pay the price on the label... where's the fun in that? :)

The only problem with HMV (this may not apply to all stores) is that they're generally manned by kids, many of them probably haven't even seen a record until recently, therefore with no idea how to look after them. I've visited a few HMV stores (for blurays) and all too often records are in a right mess. Tightly packed into sections (and from there people tend to bend the records forward in order to see what's behind), and sitting in at angles because no one has tidied up the section for several hours (damaging edges). Given that HMV are a video/music media company first and foremost, they should've been on the vinyl thing long ago, but they sat back and ignored it, and it is only now they're expanding to accommodate higher demand. Even now I've seen HMV stores placing their vinyl section on the upper floor right at the back of the store in the corner - not really the place for an expanding media form.

It's great to see somewhere on the high street you can buy physical media, but they could sharpen themselves up so that they remain on the high street, and don't disappear again.

I love to see hmv giving vinyl another go and have contemplated buying again but unfortunately my turntable is well below par against my cd player, also it's so damn expensive,OK I know most of it is 180 grm and it oozes quality compared to the cd releases these days, but £28 for jeff Buckley's my sweetheart the drunk (sooo want it on vinyl)really . I can get 3 cd's or more for that money.

very true, the vinyl revival is an expensive hobby if starting afresh, i've debated about it but decided to keep the storage/cd method, i do like the range of blues my local HMV have but it could be alot better which is where specialist buyers are required for there stores.

Went to my local HMV, and thei vinyl selection is getting bigger and bigger. They've now got crates all over the floor as well as the racks and they've also got some displays randomly around thes store, both upstairs and downstairs.

I did notice that they had some albums reduced to £9.99 http://store.hmv.com/music/vinyl?sort=price_asc&quantity=24&page=1&view=grid and they also were selling some decent albums on white vinyl that were limited to one copy per customer (Television, Love etc.), not sure why though.

Finally succumbed to the itch for buying vinyl, went into my local hmv with the intention of purchasing jeff Buckley's "my sweetheart the drunk" and came out with the cure's Disintegration and Twilight sad's "Oran Mor sessions".How did that happen,God only knows how many times I've done this.it's probably gonni take me a couple of more visits before I actually get around to getting the album I went in for.lol.but I feel a cartridge upgrade comming soon.ouch..

I know there is no real connection but as I have some lovely pressings from the 1960's and some 1940's 78's by HMV I do still retain some affection for Nipper. Lovely to see them shifting a bit of vinyl again, so far I've got Led Zeppelin 1 and 2 for £9.99 each and they are good pressings, also managed to get a 180g pressing of Velvets first album to replace my 1980's wafer thin Polydor pressing.
